I saw this narrow 8 about 3 weeks ago in person. I bino'd him from about 300 yds out of the truck one evening. I cant believe how tall he is compared to how narrow he is. Never saw either of these deer last year either...

X2

I would have my daughter give him a dirt nap. He is mature and NOT what the rule was designed to protect.

I hate to hear about y'all losing your place. Whereabouts is it?

negative.. We have one on our place that has the same type rack. He's a mature deer, but there is no way he makes AR.

I know there is a lot of debate over the AR law but this is exactly where I have my problem with it.
I too have a bunch of bucks with these same type genetics, they throw tall narrow racks and even once they reach maturity I have to just let them walk and keep feeding them so they can breed more of the same.
I am not sure just how old this particular buck is based on these two photos but if you think he is mature you sure better take him out and stop him from spreading his genes.
Just my opinion.

I'd be interested to see what GW think about this as it relates to AR. Obviously he won't make it, but I agree with gaharris. This deer will pass along his genes and the cycle continues.

Based on the other pics that I have of this deer, I think he is 3.5 or 4.5. This is my thought, comparing him to other deer that I have history with there. I know that other 8 in the pics with him has a larger body and appears to be older IMO. I have another monster 7pt that is abotu 19-20" wide that I know is 3.5 and runs with this tall 8 on occasion.

That's where the problem lies. There's really no legal/ethical way to manage these types. I've been advocating to TP&W for about 5 years to let youths take ANY antlered deer during youth seasons. That would at least help, and some kids would get some dang fine first bucks.

Except of course by simply going MLD.

And if your answer is that your place is too small, you can do a co-op. And if you're not interested in doing a co-op, you're not going to have an effect on the herd on your 50 acres anyway.

Problem solved.
