Does anyone hunt the public land around Tawakoni?

I havent hunted it in a long time, but I know there are hogs there and deer too I guess since there is a 3 deer limit. It's a lot of walking though. I actually haveastand up out there I need to go get. I took it out there a couple years ago and then never made it back to hunt, but I may try it again this year.

I scouted a couple of areas two or three years ago. They had bulldozed trails through the areas I looked at. But I can tell you most of the area I looked at was extremely THICK and overgrown. I have been told by those who duck hunt over there they have seen some big deer along the lake.

I know it is a heavy meth area. Not looking for that. I was just asking, not for your hot spots. I try to hunt there during the week to avoid others. I hunt the Duck Cove unit. There are some big deer there. Good luck to all this season.

I have a feeling that the meth cookers won't take too kindly to someone walking in on their lab. You may never get a chance to inform law enforcement...

Wouldn't worry about it. They are just like the rest of the wildlife, more scared of you than you are of them.

It just burns me up that something can't be done about this METH head crap! Tawak WMA is a 35 min drive for me and instead of being able to hunt there I have to go to Cooper Lake WMA which is over an hour drive. I did scout a good area before I was warned of the activity that goes on. The guy I ran into in the parking lot told me to leave my windows down and/or my doors unlocked and take everything out of my truck. I know that Game Wardens and law enforcement are heavily taxed but it wouldn't be that big a deal to throw several of these folks in jail and bust up some factories and it would maybe stop.

just use your truck as bait, drive off in there a ways, hit the horn a few times, leave a few bundles of wire, a package of batteries, and some screw drivers layin' on the hood, find ya a good tree to climb up in and wait. they'll come.

No, and there are some big bucks in those bottoms, on both sides of quinlan.

I'm in the same situation as Flyboy, its about 35 min from my house. Went out there yesterday afternoon around 430ish, another truck and car there hunting but never saw anyone. Saw lots of trails but no deer/pigs thiugh. Haven't had the chance to really scout it yet since it was my first time and late. I'm off Monday and plan to hunt it, so if anyone wants to join me or knows something of the area, please let me know.

Anyone have any pics of some he bucks I keep hearing about from there?

They are there but to have a chance at killing something you have to put in your time. I live 2 miles as the crow flies from there and if you are really patient and savy at hunting highly pressured deer then you stand a chance. Ive killed a few there but it is tough hunting. Very rewarding when you do get one though.

So true. By the way, not to add fuel to the fire, but I shot my first "Trophy" buck on the shores of Tawakoni back in, I think '89, the first year deer were legal in Hunt county. 20" 8 point. Still have him on my wall.

I have seen some good ones in pawnee area while duck hunting. Someone let the air out of my tires on one side of my truck for unknown reasons as I never saw anyone else. Stopped at a little house and the man had an air compressor. He had the biggest 6 I had ever seen and a huge 8 on the wall. I asked where he got them. He said a friends place about a half mile away. Year was 1998.
