So the fiancé has decided that she wants my Zeiss 3-9x50 on her 7mm-08. That means that I need to replace the Zeiss. I'm not disappointed, I have been wanting to upgrade the zoom power anyway. I am open to 1" or 30mm suggestions. I am shooting a Browning 300WSM with 150gr handloads (3300fps). I'm thinking zoom range of 4.5-14, 4-16, 5-15 or maybe 5-25. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated. Prefer a minimum of 3.5" eye relief and also prefer constant eye relief over variable. BASSHAWK

Have any of you guys seen the new Zeiss HD5 line? Are they in line with any of the scopes that were suggested? I don't have any experience with the scopes mentioned already. I do however have experience with Zeiss. BASSHAWK

Nothing to be scared of. Input bullet weight, ballistic coefficent, muzzle velocity in free online ballistic calculators and it gives you the corrections. Dial the scope to the corresponding number and shoot. Or hold the scope to the corresponding number in the reticle and shoot.

Check redhawk rifles for clearance conquest.

For the price of the new HD5 I would choose several others. Zeiss is doing some funky stuff with their lines of new scopes offered right now. my opinion

I don't find what Zeiss is doing with their scope lines funky at all. The HD5 has a variable range of 5X which is new technology. They decided to split the Conquest market, offering one line for those willing to pay for it, the HD5, and another the Terra for those that don't. The entry level German made scope is still the Duralyt with the top of the line still being the Victory Models with the Divari being one. You pay differing prices in the Victory line more due to features than a change in quality.

I tested a HD5 3-15 with the AVS locking turret
nice scope, I would be happy to run one

For what it's worth. My next scope will probably be the SWFA 3-15 or 5-20. The Vortex and Bushnell elite's are both great options as well.

For sure better than the conquest lines not as good as a Diavari or Henzholt.

I have a few of the conquest scopes and have no problems with them the HD line of scopes are top notch. I have heard good things about the vortex however I have never shot a gun with one on it.

Look into the Leup line of VX-3 or MK4 scopes. Sportoptics in LA has some pretty good deals on them such as free shipping or free thread on flip caps (aluminum)with purchase. Vortex also offers a decent scope for the price. Midway used to have an exclusive 5-15 scope for $400 that was a stellar deal for what you have. Between SportOptics and SWFA my money goes to LA due to SWFA has to charge sales tax.

If you message Skylar from SWFA on here, he'll get you a THF discount and you won't have to worry about the cost of the sales tax. Swfa has excellent service plus they're a local, Texas company. Plus their SS line of scopes is probably the best value on the market now. Vortex probably has the best warranty of all them though.

Vortex PST. Many of my buddies have them on their long range guns (1000yds) and I have a Viper on my 300wsm.

If its an elk rifle weight needs to be a factor too if you're going to lug it around all day. That's the downside to most tactical scopes are weight. There are many factors and that should be one on a mountain rifle.

I think I have decided to go with the Zeiss 4.5-14x50. I really like the reticle on the Zeiss and the clarity of the optics. Even living in the DFW area I have not been able to handle many of the brands that were mentioned in this thread, that makes it hard for me to spend $1000 sight unseen. I did handle a Leupold in the above mentioned configuration and I liked it. But I still like the Zeiss. Now I need to decide on a Z800 reticle or regular duplex reticle, Target or Hunting Turrets?
