Just bought a new 17 HMR and just wondering if it is "ballsy" enough to kill pigs. Thanks!

I'm sure it could. Many pigs have been killed with .22lr and I've taken several with a 22 WMR. A lot of people say shot placement is the key and thats true to a point. I'd prefer to use something with some stopping power though. The question is do you feel comfortable enough to chance it? A wounded pissed off pig can get dangerous real quick.

Why not? I use that little plastic tooth pick at the end of a Swiss Army knife.

Yep, what's funny is that the majority of folks who preach the sermon of "Shot placement is key"(which it is) are also the first to say "a 9mm doesn't have enough stopping power". Cracks me up. Chupa

I have killed 5 with the 17HMR. It's not what I take when I am actually pig hunting, but I hate those smelly vermin and will engage them on sight with whatever I happen to be armed with.
If I was meat hunting, I would take a more reliable "right there" pig dropper. But, shoot them with whatever you have handy.
God is so good to me.

I like small fast rounds, as they say "SPEED KILLS"
The 140 pounder I shot had MUSH for brains when I cleaned her, I shot her right behind the ear and there was hemoraging down to her shoulder blades.

Just bought a new 17 HMR and just wondering if it is "ballsy" enough to kill pigs. Thanks! Yep, shot a lot of them with the HMR. Head or neck shot and they are DRT. You'll be surprised how much damage that fast little bullet does. I'm still trying to get my hands on the new 17 WSM....one of these days. I'll add one thing on the HMR though, on the bigger pigs (especially bigger boars) I only shoot for the head - not neck. On the smaller ones neck shots have been devastating, I just haven't tried a neck shot on a bigger boar yet but I'm sure I will. That HMR has popped some coyotes too! Get to where you are shooting good with it and get out there & have some fun, good luck!

We kill them all the time with a HMR. Do just like the video and DRT. It doesn't matter how big they are.
