Hi guys,

I recently found this new style of target that really helps sighting in with open iron sights, on your carbine or handgun.

Take a look at this design that helps you hold more accurately to get a better zero or shoot smaller groups:

The design helps you determine the best, most consistent alignment with your front sight picture.

This target is made by Mountain Plains Industries and this is their website - Mountain Plains Industries

Now if we could just find some .30-30 ammo, we will be good to go...

Regards,

My 30-30 shoots "one ragged hole", is that a smaller group?

I guess I don't really see how that would help.

Hi HP,

This particular target I actually shot with a single action revolver, and I was just using it for an example. I lowered the sight and starting holding the 10 ring after those first 3 hight shots.

Using this "Victory" I have shot my best, most consistent groups, with my various lever guns and wanted to share my thoughts. My old eyes don't get ragged hole groups anymore with open sights.

Hi Colt,

I think the "V" design lets you place the front sight blade more consisently, than the tradition round black bullseye I used in the past. It helps me particularly with elevation consistency.

Good Luck and Good Shooting,

Gadget Bob

I still wonder why 30-30 ammo is hard to get.

I don't own a 30-30 but I can see what he's talking about.

I am thinking that the "V" shape draws your focus to a single focal point.... whereas a circle allows your focus to wonder.

Kind of like a full illuminated retical vs something like a Leupold firedot.....or my burris E-Dot

Aim at a 10" pie plate and hit all over....put a 1" orange dot in the middle of that plate and shrink your groups.

And the horizontal bars help align the rear sight, both at longer distances using the naked eye.

I don't do much with iron sights past 50 yds anymore because of my eyes but might have to pick some of those up for revolver shooting.

Now if they'd just start painting that on the side of deer we'd all be good to go.

Interesting, might have to try that. Agree on the 30-30 ammo, can't find any in DFW, thinking about ordering online and even then they have to backorder, and then there's the shipping cost. ARG!

I also don't get the scarcity of 30-30. Just 6 weeks ago (+/-) I was finding plenty of it and all at pre-Dec prices. The last several weeks I've seen nada....

Hi guys,

Lots of .30-30 ammo in stock today at Cabela's Allen. Both Remington Core Lokt 150 grainers and Hornady Whitetail 150 grain Inter-locks...

It's getting better out there...

My dad taught me to shoot and used to always say "aim small, miss small". Don't aim at the target, aim at a very small part of the target.
