Ya, I think that's what I will end up getting, but how come no one pick marlin? I have one in 22mag and I love that gun, not as thight of group as I kike but I think its the shooter and not the rifle

Marlin use to make a tube fed bolt action 22 mag that was a nice rifle. I am not a box magazine fan on rimfires. The Ruger 10/22 rotary magazine is the only one I have never had feed trouble with, but I haven't tried it on their new bolt actions. Just the 10/22

My vote goes for the savage. Hard to go wrong with any of their newer bolt actions.
As others have said, I'm a 10/22 man myself. Killed 2 armadillos this past week with mine.

It is safe to fire 22 shorts and longs in a bolt action BUT don't shoot them continuously or they will burn a powder ring in the chamber which will make extracting long rifles hard or impossible in bad cases. In other words mix up what you shoot in it. An alternative rifle which is designed to shoot shorts, longs and long rifles is the Remington 572 pump .22 rifle. A final thought, don't attempt to shoot shorts and some longs in a semi-auto .22 rifle as they will not cycle the bolt or jam.

The main reason I want the bolt action is when paired with the can it will be super quiet

The CB's are very quiet, just a light pop. The ones I have shot were less loud than popping a rifle primer. Sounds like you have can on the rifle. One problem though, don't shoot anything bigger than a large rat with one. No killing power. I shot a full mag of them into a medium size coon in my garage and he didn't even flinch. Not even sure it made it past the skin. Just a big hicky.

I think I will end up buying Savage FV-SR, but the stock on that don't look all that impressive, maybe change it out to a thumbhole stock in a yr or so

Either will probably shoot just fine IF you use/find decent ammo that the gun likes (rimfires are picky that way).
Some 'cheap' subsonic ammo is better than others (CCI Standard, SK standard plus ).
And even with 'expensive' ammo ($10+/50) or money is no limit, some will shoot better than others, in a specific rifle.
Finding the ammo that you gun will shoot the best, is the closest to 'benchrest handloading' that you'll get, with rimfire.

ohhhh, and good luck finding ANY kind of rf ammo anywhere, right now . . . . . Different ammo is the key to better accuracy and the majority of 22's shoot better with standard velocity.

When I lived in town, I used a Marlin tube feed .22 bolt action. The tube feed will handle .22 shorts, and they make very little noise where discretion is required.

Maybe you can find a used CZ. They are worth looking for. There are some older long barrel Winchester bolt action rifles out there that are quite accurate and reasonably priced used. If you can find a Remington 572 pump they will take anything you put down them and are quite accurate.

You will not be dissatisfied with the Savage. You will like the trigger. I have heard that there are extraction and ejection problems with the Marlin so be sure to check that out before buying the Marlin. The internet will be a good source for problems with both rifles.
