I looked over this sight for any comments that might help - but must have overlooked this one. This is a once year trip for me to Texas to hog hunt, so I don't want to spend a bnuch on equipment that will just sit in the garage. The place we are going to has feeders - but no feeder lights. Option of HogLites etc sound great, but expensive. Solar landscape lights would work, are in the budget - but are bulky. What about several glo sticks duct taped to the feeder legs? Cheap and last most of the night. But does that type light scare the pigs? Other options?

From my experience it takes the animals time to come to the feeders with lights. Hogs included. Harbor freight has a solar ready 36 LED solar light that is awesome.....I have it on all my feeders and it lights up the feeding area great! They are only $20.00 each.

Mr Cleaner is right. The best solution is something solar charged. This is an option http://www.hogbaitlight.com/photos/ , used at the Lincoln Ranch with an about 12 foot beam diameter, which is good enoungh

Under the circumstances, your best option may be a gun mounted light. They're small, relatively cheap and work well. I recently bought an xlr250 and was thoroughly impressed with its performance. You may even buy a cheap motion sensor yard light that will signal you when activity is at the feeder, then you can use the gun light to shoot them.

The one I mentioned is basically the same as the one I linked but mine has the solar panel mounted on the back of the light rather than a separate unit H/F unit

You could try solar powered lights from any number of places, but if it's a once a year hunt I would suggest one of the rifle mounted lights. It can take a while for hogs to get used to feeder mounted lights.

Bought 4 of the 99 cent solar lights at Wally World. Taped them to my feeder legs and had my usual hogs at the feeder that night. Didn't bother them or the deer a bit.

So the only comment on glo sticks is - not bright enough. Solar seems to be in the lead. But - keep them white or should I paint the lens green/red or shroud in colored cellophane? (I have the flashlight mounted, just in case of perimeter shots )

They are ok lights, but are kind of expensive for just the light unit. You would still need to buy a battery too...and then carry all of it to the stand and mount it. It may be more than he wants to get into for just a quick hunt. For what you get with them, you might as well tie two or three gun mounted lights together and not have to worry about the weight and mounting issues.
