This guy has got to go. His main beams come way back in. What's y'all's age guess?

2.5 Depending on where you are at I would give him one more year. those wrapping beams will add up in the future and out side of the brow tines his length is good.

Why would he be a cull because his main beams come back around? I never considered that a bad trait. I am no expert at aging deer, but does not look old to me.

That's not a genetic quality I consider good to have around. He's got a younger relative with the exact same traits, he might need to go too.

3 yr old from those pics. He has really short browtines also. Doubt they are an inch long.

3.5 and I agree don't like his left G3 either pop him and probably the younger relative if you want to get rid of the gene before it spreads again.

not sure what county you are in but i dang sure wouldnt use my buck tag trying to "cull" that buck, if you arent in an AR county (which you probably arent if you are thinking about taking him) then its up to you i suppose.

I have to agree with the masses. That buck is about 3 years old and yes Sir he has to go. His beams lay back just way too far for my taste. He is healthy so should be a good eating deer. Good luck.

If we have bucks like those in Bell County, I am gonna be looking for them really hard when I get back in December for leave!

He is more likely to be a good buck than a doe is.

He may indeed be a cull, but I wouldn't shoot a cull because their beams hook in, most of the bucks with the longest beams I have ever shot have had hooked beams and beams are a decent part of score. However in this case it doesn't look like he has much to go along with those beams.

There is no way I would cull that deer. He is young! and both beams wrap hard. That is a good thing! Wrap = inches when he gets mature. Unless you have some 140 type 2-3 year olds running around I would pass him.
Go here and look at some of our harvest photos the first few deer in the 150-175 range wrap just like that.

What did those 150-175 look like at 3.5? Short MB's, short G1's, and a small frame? Wrap around beams don't really bother me. The G1's and "crab claw" G3 would be more of a concern to me.

If you look at the one with the guy with the bow. That one was a tight 8 pt short tine at 2.5. Scored 152 at 7.5 But we are also in south texas with more mass. Depending on what else you have it is all relative, you know your place better. looking at your country looks like east texas or hill country cant tell. all I am saying is I would give him one more year before killing him as a cull especially since the one he is hazing in picture 2 looks to have shorter tines and be in the same age bracket. Just my opinion. He does have shot G1s but the older buck in pic one is only about an inch better, so brows may not be in the genetic there. If you kill him you have to let us know what you come up with age.

There is more to mainbeam length than the wrap. I have killed bucks with that heavy wrap that had very short beams for their age class. If the deer were on my place with those short G1's, weak mass and short beams I would shot him. Tine length is 40% of his final score on average. Beam length is 30% of the final score. Mass is 20% of the final score. Spread is 10%.
