I would like some opinions on this buck. Would you consider this a management buck?

Depends on your management style.

Assuming he is 4.5+ and is about done for the year then yes he would be management where I hunt.

based on the bucks from you other post, absolutely. That deer is 3.5+ and has inferior genetics....therefore a cull

Last year peep To some he would be a trophy but to some he does not fit what they want in a buck his age. If it were my place and I had a lot better bucks in his age class, he would be a buck to take.

Personally, he's a trophy to me. That said, where I hunt, we don't have a lot of width, so I might keep him around to add that spread to the herd.

I think he is only 3.5. If you had great range conditions all during the antler growth and you have a solid management plan, take him. If range conditions were not that good, I would give him another year

I'd harvest him as a management buck. Weak tine length is no good for score if that's what your managing for. If you like the looks of him though, he would improve with another year.

really does depend on where you are - if it is controlled, large tract management ranch then let him walk till he is 6 or 7 - if not and a neighbor may shoot him, then take him -

depends on how old he is. In a study we did in college, we had tagged 3 year old 8's become 10's at age 6 and 7. Just depends how patient you are and how eager your neighbors are to pull the trigger. Personally, I would let a new or young hunter take that deer as mass and tine length is a bigger issue than number of points.

I would definately give that guy a pass this year and probably next year too. He is a good strong deer with nice beams and tines and will certainly produce some nice offspring. Feed him good.

I'm on the fence. He looks young to me. Looks like Ozona area. Definitely bigger deer around there. Maybe at the close of the season I'd shoot him. Just depends on whether I'm "feeling bloody" at the time.

That deer is at least a 5 yr old. Even with free choice protein he does not have the genetics to be much better that what he is now.

If he were on one of our places:

BSR - Glasscock - Cull
Spade - Mitchel/Sterling - Walk

Just depends on goals and what you currently have.

He looked younger than that to me until I increased the picture to 400%. Closer up he looks older in the face with some loose skin around the neck. Your probably right on this one for a change laugh bolt

I would take him, I agree with stxranchman on the age and with short tines I dont see him getting any bigger.
