I am hunting teal for the first time this year in Liberty, TX. I need to get some decoys and I was thinking of getting green winged teal decoys. Can still use them for general season or should I get other types?

Teal aren't picky, anything duck shaped, with some movement (mojo or jerk string) and you'll kill em. I usually just grab all my hens out of my other decoys and go for em.

And yes, teal decoys are definitively usable in the regular season.

All you really need is a Mojo.

1. Mallard Hen
2. Puddler Pack
3. Teal either GWT or Blue Wing

Most important is motion so Mojo Teal, Mojo Baby Mallard, Mojo Dove or Mojo Thang.

I also like some type of water motion like a Real Decoy Flutter Decoy in Mallard Hen.

Teal come in early if they want to be there they will...

If your in the right place it really does not matter and if your not, it really does not matter what you have out.

Maybe a dozen hen decoys of your choice and a mojo. No need for a bunch of calling. Should get a limit if there are teal and you can semi shoot. Got to have a couple buddies to enjoy this early teal season with.

If you're on big water don't be afraid to call - they react very well to it. They will not always see your spread but calling can bend them your way. If you don't have a teal call you can make the same sound with any mallard hen call by speeding it up.

On a pond just sit back and be ready.

I think scouting is more important in teal hunting than decoys. Like mentioned before teal will typically come in to just about any decoys as long as you are where they want to be. Teal move in and out suddenly so if you can scout as close to when you are hunting you will have a much better chance of setting up where the birds are.

I personally use a dozen old and cheap teal decoys a few mallard hens and a jerk cord.
