Your Title says "Bobcats....Accidentally." So either you are trying to justify your actions or you are feeling remorse and seeing if what you did matches your feelings by getting others to tell you what they think about what you did.
Personally I would not have shot them. I dont get to see them often enough to start shooting them on sight and part of my love for hunting is seeing animals you don't get to see in town. I could've shot 10 armidillos this year, 4 racoons and I don't know how many possums.
I'm not innocent by any means. Last spring I shot a Possum and left her for the coyotes so I could shoot them. I kept hearing a high pitched sound and lo an behold this possum had babies. Two little possums. I know ppl that cant stand them and will kill em on sight. I made the decision for myself that what I did was wrong, and have vowed to never shoot animals in the spring time again. I feel everything should get a fighting chance at life and any baby should get a chance to grow. They get smarter and wiser and learn and have a better chance of escape or avoid ppl like me as adults.
If you have no remorse about it then why did you post it was an accident and say "I feel bad about killing them"?
Just don't do it again. You cant take it back and if you want to justify it by saying you where afraid for your dogs, then you have little faith in your dogs. I think posting the pic was not really a bright idea, but it was your decision.
I think you do feel bad about it and I'm sorry but its to late to do anything about it now. If I get to the point where I see bobcats all the time, then I'll shoot one or two. I'll shoot a yearling deer if I shoot the mother because they taste so good. Bobcats do not. You will stink up the whole house and end up throwing the pot out you cooked it in.

Thanks for pointing that out BigOrn, I will walk down the hall right now and tell Heaven that I am sorry for calling him a coward. Oh yeah, he was sitting in my office when I typed it. We figured since everyone else made their typical negative comments about harvesting these predators, we might as well have a good time.

It was an accident because I was hunting quail - not bobcats. I meant it was an accidental hunt. I wouldn't purposefully go out looking for bobcats armed with a 20 Ga. shotgun with 7-1/2 shot. You're not very bright if you think I meant I accidentally killed them when I shot at them 5 times and my buddy shot 3 rounds. All I wanted was for you to think about what you would do in that situation rather than to denigrate me for my actions. On the same day, an armadillo walked under my parked pickup and all I did was take pictures. I'll post a pic for you when I get back to the house. We also saw some whitetails, a woodpecker (very close up), lots of sparrows (oh - I guess you do see those in town - sorry), and lots of meadowlarks. As far as I know, the armadillo and all of the others are still alive.
I would not intentionally put my German Short-Hair Pointer against any age Bobcat as I guess you obviously would. I have faith in my dog as a gun dog, but not as a fighting dog. By your words, I can't believe you would condone a dog/bobcat fight.
I won't respond to any of the rest of your post because I think everyone here will see it for what it is.

Big_Orn,
That post of Mark3's was only in jest. I was looking over his shoulder and approved it before he submitted it. If anything, take it out on me.
I can't believe some of these other posts are serious, either...................or................are they????????

You guuuuys....be nice here...lol. This man has broken no laws. He did what he thought was right...doesn't really matter what we think. I believe I said as much...he shouldn't have made...and didn't NEED to make excuses. I don't think he should have posted the pics. We all as hunters need to be careful about the signals we send the public...not that we need to tiptoe around them...we shouldn't...I just think the pics were not in the best taste. I think a lot of us think that...but still...c'mon...it's not like he is a coward or a bad guy for doing it...as a group we should think about how it makes us all look. Same goes for deer with thier guts and tongues hanging out...pictures of exit wounds and wot not. I can be very descriptive without posting a pic of it. I believe the dude made a slight and brief error in judgment...no biggie. We have all been there. Don't worry BO...all this typing stuff translates poorly...lol. Yall all stay down...lol

My dog can take a kitten. And that is what those are..wild or not they are kittens. I would not condone a kitten dog fight, and I doubt seriously if those kittens would attack. I just thought it was a piss poor excuse to kill them just like the cow thing was a bad excuse. How you can get that what I said "you have little faith in your dogs" into I condone cat/dog fights, when we are discussing kittens, and your dogs must be whimps is pretty damn funny. I think the guilt is eating you up and you are going to turn your anger on me. It wont't bring those kittens back. A full grown bobcat would smoke just about any pointer. You could have walked over and plucked those kittens with your bare hands. You are a bad man....feel better?
I would have left them alone to live and grow and not be worried about kittens attacking.

If any body doesn't feel a little remorse or respect for the animals they kill, than they probably wouldn't feel any for killing a human. This whole thing is getting blowed way out of hand. Killing the cats was one thing, posting the picture was another.
I don't think any of us would have said one bad thing or anything that even sounded negative, if it hadn't been for the pictures.
Any of you out there, that have reached the point where you can kill without feeling, need to either quit hunting, or hire yourselves out to the mob.
That is supposed to be one of the cornerstones of being a sportsman, respect and reverence for the animals we kill.

As always...CHC is right (just quit doggin' on the .223!!! . ) Bluntly put, I'm sick of this subject already. 257Heaven - you'd be doing all hunters from around the globe a huge favor if you would remove these pics. I agree little cats grow up to be big cats and it is your absolute prerogative (sp???) to remove them, but there are some anti-hunting groups that would love to have pictures and threads like this to show their buddies in Congress.

Nope..dog ate it before I could get the film loaded And it was a full grown cat. Not some baby kitten. There is a difference. And I know better then to take pictures of house pets or post pictures of baby animals I had to shoot five times to get it to die and yet you call me not to brite. I think you are an incompetent fool and dangerous. You fired at a cat last year 4 times and not really sure if you hit it. You think you did wich means you left a wounded animal out there to die. And you stated you have no remorse. I think you are cold blooded and wrong.
I do not like cats, most of my male friends do not, but they would not condone killing kittens or posting the pics of dead ones. I'm surprised an admin of this forum has not removed those pics before its to late. I'm sure another forum...peta...or animal rights group has this site linked already and they will be monitoring it for future pics.

I would have pulled the trigger, without a second thought! You did the right thing. Ranchers expect you to take preditors off their land, no matter what size they are. A bobcat can take a calve at birth. They will take goats and sheep. That makes any rancher happy to see these things dead. Some pay money to have them removed. Now yall are hunters, did you know they take fawns? If you wont kill them for your rancher, then kill them for yourself. You are not going to hurt the population in any big way with a gun. If bobcats are not big enough to take livestock then why do they put a bounty on them? Why is the bounty higher than a coyote. A coyote will take deer and often do. If they can take deer they can take calves. I have read in several diffent books that coyotes are the biggest deer killers there are. Again why is the bounty on a bobcat higher?

I wasnt talkin about livestock in general, i was talking about cattle. Maybe a bobcat can take a calf one time out of a thousand, but last time i checked a mama cow can definitely fend off a bobcat, especially considering theyre solitary nature.

I'm new to this forum i like the site and respect the honesty. Not trying to make anybody mad just my 2cents worth. Bobcats do not pose that big of a problem on wildlife or livestock to justify killing kittens, now coyotes are another thing they pose a big threat. I have seen them chasing deer all over the place this year. As far as ranchers go they do what they think is right and often jump to conclusions i know 1st hand i grew up on a ranch! But we as hunters need to be better, we are always under the spot light with people trying to take our god given rights from us. We as hunters need to be better than the rest and stand together know matter what we think of each other.

I believe these forums are about talking about things with others that have different ways of looking at things. Dont worry about making someone else mad. It is your opinion, dont be afraid to say it. All of what is said on here influences all of us. It makes us stop and think about others. What I think may be right, may not be in someone elses eyes. I would not know that, if we could not speak freely.
