I have gotten access to a rather large ranch in Mexico about 4 hours from Texas. I have been invited to come and hunt for the fall of 2014. No outsiders have hunted this ranch, only ranch hands. They do not know what permits or even what seasons are for hunting, or legal info on bringing capes and horns back to the US. I get to shoot one black bear, one mule deer, one elk, and one I was very surprised to hear was, a desert big horn. They are a very nice family, they live off the land. Does anybody have info on how I can do this hunt properly and legally to be able make this hunt a success and bring home these trophies safely?
Thanks

Your best bet would be to check with the nearest Mexican Consulate. They'll probably have all the info you need, or can get it, on the legal info you need for your hunt in their country.

I would get more than one person's information on this. Actually speak to a few people who have gone hunting down there.
As a precaution, make sure your Senators know who you are in case you get into trouble. There are so many legal issues on both sides to deal with. Dealing with an issue on this side of the border would not be too bad. The other side of the fence would not be so good.

You won't get me to cross the border for any hunt, I could careless if the place the place was full of trophy animals.

This won't happen to me. http://www.chron.com/news/nation-world/a...ico-1868708.phpThat was 6 years ago, it has gotten worse, not better since then. People still go to Mexico, but is it worth it?

Anyone know what happened to those hunters in the link above?? It has been 6 years, but I believe they all made it home okay. I am sure Mueller did, not 100% on the others, I just don't remember the others.

Scariest part of legal down there is that sometimes they participate and sometimes they do not.

NavTex,
I am in a similar situation to you and have been trying to find out much of the same information for a while. I believe you will need a licensed guide down there to legally hunt as a non-Mexican citizen. You would also need licenses or tags for the different animals you are going after and the best I can gather is there is a lot of red tape that is somewhat difficult to navigate. In my opinion, unless someone on here that knows the system and has done it before can offer better advice, the best route is to contact and pay a reputable guide to sort through the paperwork and get you legal and sign off that they guided you whether they did or not.

I have been hunting down there for a few years. I strongly recommend you get a guide to do your paper work. You can take two guns and 100 rounds of ammo per gun per person. If you are driving you will need a guide that services your crossing point. Gun permit cost $150 and Hunting license varies depending on the species. Deer cost $250.00. You must check your guns in with the military and must check them out. Your guide will handle all the paper work and arrange the meeting time at your entry point. You will get your tags from the ranch you hunt on. I use Double Eagle Outfitters out of Eagle Pass. Give Humberto a call I bet he can help you out. 830-968-2222

I hunted there for 5 yrs in the early to mid 90's, shot some great deer. One day about noon was headed to ranch when a bunch of Mexican federales had a traffic stop using what looked like an old bread truck with red and blue lights on it. The ransacked my truck and found 1, repeat 1 spent 22 case. All hell broke loose, cuffs went on, $200 later I was a free man again, with chit in my pants. Finished the season and never went back and won't to that war zone. And my ranch was less than 5 miles from the Columbia bridge!!!! Tell you what if you decide to hunt there be sure and list me as beneficiary to any valuables you might have!!! Don't say nobody told you so.

Thanks for all the info and advice, I was all for it 100% until I went to my lawyer to look into it. Well he has been on the phone and emails back and forth with officials in Mexico. They can't give a straight answer, have changed their story's several times and have denied on the phone what they have written in emails. He said it looks like there is to many people tapped into the payroll of hunting for an individual to buy a license and permits to hunt. We are going to get a Mexico lawyer involved. I'm down to 75% chance now of making this happen. The cost of getting a lawyer involved is worth it for a chance to hunt a Big horn for free.
Dbug I saved Humberto's number we are going to talk to him in the next few days.
Thanks
