Shot a pigeon last weekend. Was banded. Turns out to have been someone's racing pigeon. Hopefully he lost it a while back and it simply joined in with a bunch of wild birds. Otherwise, I'll bet $1000 he loses the race...

I've shot one and still wear the band around my neck like a duck hunter and when the duck guys ask what it is I just say oh you don't have one of these, hell I thought you were a bird hunter. Mine was also a racer but since he was alone I don't know if he was really fast and winning or really slow and way behind.

There is one with a band around its foot that lives underneath the I-10 and Hwy 304 intersection near our place. I have seen him fly from there to the corn feeder in our breeder pasture. Sometimes he's sitting on the fence near our entrance. I bet he's been around for close to two years.

This pigeon was banded in Austin, TX, and shot on the Northern border of OK.

I wouldn't have shot it if I knew it was a racer, but there is no way to tell when you are hunting and they come in to the mojos

I found it on some lost pigeon website. I googled it and several came up.
I actually misspoke a little. Alls I know is that it was banded in Texas, but I don't know exactly where in Texas.

I did too on opening day. My was from the Dallas racing club. Banded in 2012. Shot him in Sherman the band says AU. Which stands for American racing pigeon union.

i shot one opening weekend as well from the same Organization. mine was bright green and said AU 2013 DALLAS
