This one missed the mark where I was hunting. I hunted for the first time in the Texas Parks and Wild Life Public hunting unit 2399. This unit is located in Liberty County Texas. The land is 700 acres located off of US Highway 90 East in the Central Zone for hunting dove. On the 1st day I observed approximately 35 to 40 hunters and I would estimate maybe 15 to 20 dove where harvested. On the 2nd day there were approximately 10 to 12 hunters and maybe 3 to 5 doves were harvested.

There were just not a lot of doves in the air this weekend. What I was seeing this week end is contrary with the repot from TPWD see links. http://texanoutdoors.com/2013/08/13/texa...ptember-staple/ and http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/newsmedia/releases/?req=20130812b

I think the dove were a week late because this week I have been seeing dove and other birds all over the place. I will be going back out this weekend and have a feeling that the numbers are gonna be better this weekend.

I was out there Sept 1st in the AM. Not that great. our field bagged maybe 15 between the 7-8 on that field. Thinking of going west of town in a couple weekends. I'd be interested to hear what y'all get this weekend.

Well I was back out there today and nothing. This is a bad place to hunt. I may try a new place next time.

I was on a lease up in Liberty County to start the season (just outside Dayton) and I agree that it was slow. Talking to a couple of guys on the lease said that their were birds everywhere last year and nothing this year.

I am starting to subscribe to the idea that all the birds are still north of Texas and we have to wait a little while and hope for some cool weather.

I was out there (unit 2399)last year and it sucked. Went opening day and it sucked. Went yesterday....got rained on. But I will agree that overall I'm seeing less birds in south Texas than this time last year. If I recall correctly...by this time last year we already had a cool front come in. This is my wife and my sons first year hunting and so far its off to a rough start. We might just lay low until the south zone opens.

I agree we had a cold front this week last season. It's running late and none in sight from what the weather man is sayin

Cold front...no cold front...doesn't matter. That unit just doesn't hold very many birds and the birds that are on it get shot out quick.
