Right about this time of year there are a few things I start to do in anticipation of deer season.
1. Shoot at least 40 arrows a day from multiples heights and position at 10,20 and 30, yards.
2. Sight in rifles more than once, finalizing which ammo works best in grouping.
3. Get bow and rifle gear staged
4. Make my master checklist for each season/ lease trip
5. Prepare my "go" bag. Always ready in the closet and includes the right clothes, safety equipment, licenses, pens, tape, elec strap, knives, calls and on and on.
6. Biggest thing is changing sleep patterns gradually over the next 2 months. Earlier to be bed and earlier to rise.
7. Begin a hydration practice more than normal.
8. Eat healthier, more veggies and seafood and less red meats.
9. Hike around the lake with a full pack twice a week to simulate the field
10. Make sure blinds and feeders are set, shooting lanes cut, everything operational.
11. Camp is set with everything to cook so all we need to do is bring food and water.

Call son and nephews and remind them to fill and check feeders. Also remind them to clean up the cabin, and stock the kitchen supplies with fresh food. Schedule my times at the cabin with my wife and the grandkids. And make sure they know who is to pick me up and what days they are responsible for field dressing anything I shoot. up

Yep forgot that. Son will head out next weekend to fill feeders and check cameras. That boy really does all the work and he loves it. He gets my buck tag first every year. I am happy with a couple of does or so to fill the freezer. No grandkids just yet, but may be close!!!

My training program consists of:

1) selecting the proper whiskey drink
2) selecting the proper cuts of meat for the grill
3) researching dirty jokes and a few lies to tell around the campfire.
4) coming up with a few props for practical jokes on other members.
5) re-stock the truck with TP
6) put in for vacation days during the rut well in advance.
7) just wing the rest as you go.

I'm gonna load up a back pack with 150-175 lbs, go to my local high school, and do bleachers. That way maybe I can get my deer out of the revine.

Hunting season never ends for me.

I stay sharp by shooting turtles with a .22 and carp and far with a bow

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I think back during one of my three freshmen years in college I probably combined 3 and 5.

If you want some friendly advice, get a haircut and take a bath. You wouldn't get hassled so much.

Always pack a roll with you, in case you have to mix 3 while doing 4.
