New to the hunting forum and had a question. I havent been hunting in about 4 years but I was thinking of going for some hogs or maybe deer this year. Has anyone ever had decent success at the publc land by Mineola? I think it,s called the Sabine River public hunting but I,m not sure.

I think you are talking about the Old Sabine River Bottom and it is near Lindale. I was hunting hogs out there before it got real hot.I live near there and will be back when weather cools a little. There are lots and lots of signs of hogs there but they are difficult to find. Do you bow hunt?

I have hunted out there during a lottery hunt. People where constantly walking into our compartment armed to hunt. I personally will not go back to the Old Sabine River Bottom.

You can hunt hogs year around there with a bow but there a season with a rifle. We might run into each other during bow season but no way I will enter that place when rifle season begins.

I don't think if it matters if rifle hunting is going on I think if your hunting migratory birds no orange is required

Just remember the further you walk from civilization the better your odds, typically. Most are to lazy to walk more than 1/4-1/2 mile now a days.

You can go online and find a map of the entire site. That might help you with finding parking and navigating through there.

I don't think there is ever a gun season for deer, just archery.
