Me and the old Man went on our first Pronghorn antelope hunt this weekend. Had the opportunity through a buddy on our lease that knows a landowner in Clayton, New Mexico (All self guided hunts). Some of the most beautiful country I've ever been in, rolling hills and giant canyon walls with endless views. Our first day out we saw about 30-40 antelope had a couple of 300-400+ yd shots that we of course missed. Keep in mind we are not professional shooters, we are used to 100-150 yd shots at whitetail, so we knew right off the bat that this was a completely different ballgame. Not anything like whitetail hunting, not sitting in a deer blind waiting for the animals to come to you, you have to go out and find the animals. After the first day we had to get our selfs together and come out successful. The next and final day of the hunt we had the same game plan, go out and find them. That morning we had the same result, we saw about 20 antelope plenty of shooter bucks, again 2-3 shots but all missed. At this point frustration was setting in and we were getting impatient. so that after noon we decided to change up the game. We parked A few hundred yards from a lone Windmill/water tank to see if the animals would come and get a drink in the heat of the day. Well we didn't see anything come into the water, but this gave us time to cool down and regain our composure. This was all we needed because no later we spot a lone Buck about 300 yds up and headed right towards us. We stop the truck, get out and get set up b/c the buck is still coming right at us. Im on the gun and dad is on the range finder calling out yardage. 290...285...280...270...280, thats the closest he got 282. As soon as he stopped, put the smack down on him. Dropped right in his tracks, just a textbook antelope kill. Emotions were flying right now we were on cloud 9 with excitement. Two Boys from Texas that have never even seen antelope closer than 1000 yds just successfully filled their tag on their own. A self guided success. Group about 600yds away Post op Wrong species but a nice muley On the drive home saw this crop duster and thought i would share a cool pic

Once you get used to western style hunting, everything else is almost boring.

Once you get used to western style hunting, everything else is almost boring. It was hard for me to get used to sitting in a freaking stand. I still will get out of my stand and go stalk the hogs if I see them around. Oh and nice Antelope. What was the measurement? 13.5"?
