This bruiser was taken near Alpine a few years ago - I know this guy and he could care less about entering anything in the book.

"hole in the ear"? Guess that means it was tagged at one time? We don't have that problem in AZ with our elk.

Yes it is almost impossible to get a tag even for residents and yes I agree that they then turn out to be for watching ALL the big ones are watched from early June by high priced guides!

"hole in the ear"? Guess that means it was tagged at one time? We don't have that problem in AZ with our elk. Probably, but its hard to speculate why it was tagged. And you do have a few tagged and collared elk. West tx is virtually all private land. Most those ranches that the elk live on are several 100,000's of acres. TPWD pretty much decided to let the land owners manage how they see fit. Also easier on the department trying to figure out the difference between HF escapees or HF vs the west tx 1930's released elk. We also have wild populations in the panhandle.

My hunting buddies knock down bruisers in west tx every year. I think this past year they took 8 bulls over 310 in 3 days.

Bobo....read this article. It will clarify why there was a hole in the bull's ear.

All bulls went over 310 and all were scored by an official scorer for B&C.

Elk is on my bucket list. Don't think I'll vere get there though.

Any good info on the costs to hunt these bulls? It's about the same as hunting them out of state. When you factor in the fact that you can stay in Texas, don't put in for a draw, hunt easier terrain for big bulls without dealing with the public.....I have no idea why it doesn't cost more than it does.
