While driving the pasture yesterday [south Texas] I saw about 15 turkeys. While observing them, several gobblers started strutting.I always thought this occured only during the spring time during mating season. Was this unusal?

I think so but i am no expert. I would think that would be like a deer chasing does in the summer. Who knows though?

Some dudes like to strut their stuff all year long.

One of my turkey hunters explained to me that turkeys have a social structure. they will try to be dominant over the other toms and a boss tom will emerge out of all the hoopla. Hens do the same even having a boss hen.

sometimes they are settling who will be boss in the spring. I watched 10 males, 4 toms and 6 jakes, strut, kick, flap purr all over the place in the middle of November.
