OK so I just watched the news and there is a storm system making its way north. Will this affect the dove in any way? I know a good cold front can affect the birds but what about a system coming from the south?

Hopefully it brings lots of rain which will have a negative affect on my birds, but we need rain more than we need to kill birds.

Yes it will have an impact on the birds. Don't know how bad or good that impact will be. It is what it is, relax and go hunting when the calander says go hunting. Nothing you can do will change it.

Last year on my family's north zone dove hunt we sat on the porch the evening before the opener. We watched as hundreds of birds piled into that field. The next day, nothing! No birds! They just up and left. It is what it is.

That happened to one of my fields a couple weeks ago

Birds will be where the birds will be. Seems the rain has stirred them up a bit. A lot of activity in the fields yesterday.

Speak for yourself. I want to get some birds on my first Dove hunt. After sept. 2 then we can get rain.

I don't care if it rains the 1st or the 2nd or the 15th, I'll kill birds. I'll take rain anytime and you will never catch me praying it won't rain.

No the 1st and 2nd. Have labor day off for work. After that it is the agonizing wait until November.

Dude that's rough. Ain't no way I could only hunt 2 days for dove. You need to go scout some public or make friends with some farmers. After the 1st week is over and all the crowds are gone is when it's really time to dove hunt.

I was invited to go on this hunt last week and I am borrowing a shotgun from the person who is taking me so this was a last minute thing. If I had a shotgun I would do more Dove hunting but I plan on getting a shotgun next year and be ready to do Dove and maybe even duck hunting next year.

If you're ever around sweetwater/roscoe give me a shout, got extra guns and extra dove/ducks.

You say that but when we are feeding round bails already, others are too. If the cattle ranchers see a bind coming again they will sell off their stock and wait it out. When that happens beef goes through the roof. We just went through a 30% increase from the beginning of the drought. Let it continue and we will all be eating soy patty, at high prices..
