My Lab injested a pig hoof treat from a feed store and it got lodged in his gut. He had to have surgery to have it removed. Price tag was $1600 for surgery.

No. Prepare them before giving them to the dog. Keep it safe and happy.

somehow our old yard dogs have made it all these years eating whatevr we threw out of the kitchen/freezer....

but I will say that now that I have a bird dog that I actually invest considerable time and money into, no way I would risk giving him a bone to choke on...plus he stays in the house and I dont want him to get the runs lol

Course then I think about all the dogs we have had that have never had a problem eating anything we threw out... except marinara sauce... they dont seem to like marinara sauce.

I'll give mine leg bones from deer or hogs that we process. They don't have any problems with them.

When you are shelling out thousands at the vets office you will understand why Brad is telling you not to. Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way. The OP at least had enough sense to ask.

Raw meat is one of the best things you can give a dog. I give young pups chicken legs and when the get older raw 1/4 chickens.
I give them deer leg bones but not pork bones or ribs from deer.
There are several books about this subject one is the barf diet. The way I found out about a raw diet was from a dog show judge and when I looked at her dogs teeth they were white and her dog looked great.

I know folks that do it and have no problems but the time and money I have tied up in my dogs I'd rather not take the chance. Bad things can happen.

But you do know that chicken bones can easily splinter inside a dogs throat right? Not saying the chicken parts a bad idea but the bones eh iffy IMO. But deer or hog bones never given a second thought about throwing one out occasionally

It's only a problem if's it cooked. I have ten dogs at all times and it has never been a problem. One lived to seventeen.
It cleans there teeth and is much better for them than any dry dog food.

See my post above about what the surgery cost me because my Lab got a pig hoof lodged in his gut. But of course if you just let your dog die you wont have to shell out thousands on a vet bill.
