That is him. My guess is he more than likely pulled or broke that left beam out of his skull last season during the rut. The pedicle healed but not in the same normal shape. You can tell by the size and shape of the base on that left side. Another possibilty is that he damaged it right when he started to grow antlers this year. If he damaged the skull/pedicle then he will not grow a normal antler on that side. I have seen a buck with that look, stay that way for 2 yrs then back to normal. If he damaged in velvet he should be normal looking next year. Age might come into play also.

STX. 2011-12 he had about 4" of beam and a brow by Dec., last year he was one of the only deer to keep all his horns last season, he had them untill he lost them. I suppose that means he hurt it this year once he started growing. His right side has always been a bit smaller but i guess the transfer of growth to the injury made it more exagerated? How old do you think he is and. what do you think he will score? Im almost sure he is 5 this year and I was thinking about taking him. I really dont have any crazy horned deer in the living room and he is in my opinion a crazy horned deer.

Looks like he has a triple beam almost. That would figure in with the pedicle damage.

How old do you think he is and. what do you think he will score? Im almost sure he is 5 this year and I was thinking about taking him. I really dont have any crazy horned deer in the living room and he is in my opinion a crazy horned deer. Did you see him or have pics of him into March or when he shed? Did you find his shed(s)? The reason I ask is that with doe fawns coming into their first heat cycle he would still be involved in the rut in Jan, Feb or even early March. His fighting a younger age showed he was in the middle age group and possibly the older age class of bucks on your place. He was aggressive younger so his chances of damage to his skull or pedicle was going to be greater. I found 2 bucks locked up and dead on March 5th one year and had seen one them mid Feb. In December that buck had a rip in the side of his jaw from fighting and healed up only to be found locked up in another fight and dead. I have found sheds off of bucks that still had a lot of bone conected to the antler under the burr on the shed after I had seen them in Jan or so with no breakage. Most of those bucks grew a nontypical antler(s) the next antler growth. He does not appear to older than 5 in those pics from this year, but might show more age once he sheds his velvet and has his fall coat of hair. As far as score he will have grown a lot since late July. Need more recent pics to get a better guess if that is driving your interest in him. If you like him as he is and his uniqueness, then don't worry about score. Kill him if he gets your blood pumping when he steps out. I would consider doing it early on if you can find him since he has shown fighting and dominance at a younger age in the past already. He could break up much earlier with a nontypical rack and his body size will cause more leverage on his antlers.

I've seen a buck like that, it's pretty neat IMO but I would agree damage in velvet. No matter what happened I'd take him may end up surprising you on a score as well
