My late grandfather handed down a Remington model 241 22 rifle to me.

I did some research today and want to see if I've found the right answers.

Based on patent number it looks like the model 241 speedster made between 1935-51. should be worth maybe $200-$500???

It has the tube I think you pull out of the stock, manually load bullets into slot and push the tube back in. And originally I thought it used a clip but it appears that's the ejection port.

my one really concern is on the barrel is says "22 short only" but on the information I read online it says it will take 10 22LR shells, OR 15 22 short shells. I have 5-600 22LR and think it would be fun to play around w this gun. But don't want to mess it up.

Based on pictures value, functionality, and if its okay to load 22LR would help me a lot.

Thx

Read the lines next to "designer/inventor".

Same design as the browning atd .22. Had one of those in .22 short. They are a lot of fun. Take it apart clean it and shoot it.

Yes 22 Short ONLY

Your literature states those rifles were made in two calibers and are only able to accept 22 short ONLY or 22 LR ONLY, not both.

The Remington 552 Speedmaster will accept 22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle. Maybe that's where the confusion was coming from.

I have one just like it that I picked up at a gun show for $100. The barrel on them is several inches longer than what you'll find on today's .22 rifles, which helps accuracy and balance. They're great little rifles for plinking and generally more quiet than a .22 LR.

Probably very dangerous, feel certain the government is going to outlaw shorts in the near future. If you want to send it to me I will dispose of it properly. smile

Just joshing, it shoots shorts only and will give you many hours of enjoyment. My uncle had one of these, stayed in the barn all its life. He used it for rats and the occasional skunk. I believe these were popular in carnivals and fairs with different type contest.

I carried mine back in the day when I ran coonhounds. It was great for shooting them out so the dogs could finish them up. I always knew when I hit them because the short bullets sounded like you were hitting a bag of flour. "Thump!"
