I am thinking about getting an AR 15 build in a 7.62 covert. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this round and what their thoughts were on it. I am a reloader so factory ammunition is not a problem.I will mainly be shooting hogs suppressed. Thanks for your help

After reading more on the 7.62 Covert, or the 7.62x40 WT (Wilson Tac), it's a glorified 300 blk out with slightly more case capacity, but with a specified barrel twist of 1:12". With this twist, you can not shoot the heavy subsonic bullets, like you can in the black out. The 180 grain SP subs will stabilize in a 1:12", like a 308 Win does. But if the gas port hole is smaller than the 300 blk out, than the subs have no chance of cycling. With the slower twist of the covert, and likely smaller gas port hole (smaller gas port hole = more pressure behind the bullet and less pressure wasted cycling the bolt), you will gain more speed than the blk out. With a 1:12 twist, you are able to gain more speed with the lighter bullets than the faster twist rate of the blk out, which has a 1:8" twist. It looks to be about 100-150 fps faster than the blk out, bullet for bullet. This round is near identical to the blk out, but without the ability to shoot the heavy subsonic rounds. Is the 100-150 fps increase worth it? The article Wilson Combat wrote tout's the inaccuracies of the 300 blk out. I wish they would provide more information on this, as I have not found any "inaccuracies" with the blk out. I've plinked with my ammo out to 500 yards numerous times and it shoots very well, even at that distance. The blk out has taken off like wildfire, and I think Wilson is trying to get into the AR-15, 30 caliber game with one of their proprietary calibers. We'll see how it does.

thanks for the good info Chad!
I believe we are talking about two different cartridges. The Wilson tactical cartridge is based on the 223. The 762 covert is based off 762 by 39 or 6.5 Grendel case. The 762 covert claims to shoot 120 grain pills 4 to 500 feet per second faster than supersonic blackout 110 grain. It also claims to shoot and cycle subsonic loads perfectly.
I googled it and was not able to come up with much information. One of the website links took me to a blank page.

Oh, ok. I'm not sure then. I'm not familiar with it, and my searches turned up nothing. It sounds like a bottle necked case, like a grendel case, but shooting 30 cal bullets. I don't know anything about it.
