Good choices, that combo will work well for about 90% of big game hunting in Aorth America, it can be used for most of the remaing 10% of situations. I have a Zeiss 2x7 Terra that I'm pleased with.
for every stereotype there's a prototype don't be the prototype

I've learned that its better and less expensive to just do it right out of the gate. You did just that...congratulations! Nice choice.
We kept it as a pet for several months until it got run over by a truck. Then we ate him.

Congrats but it is probably the first of many more to come your way! It took me 40+ years to by my first rifle. It only took about 6 months after that to buy my second. I now have three rifles and two shotguns, and I'm thinking about handguns ...

Can't go wrong with the 30-06 or the Rem 700...solid choice and you will be able to pass it down.

Very nice rifle. Good shotgun too. Now all you need is a nice rimfire rifle, to plink with between shots on that '06 while it cools down!
