You might have to just go to Cabelas and get some from there. I got some Rio #6 last year.

Dove are not waterfowl. Steel shot is not required. That is why you cannot find any steel dove loads.

I can go down the street and find steel dove loads at Academy in about 2 minutes. There are places people want you to shoot steel for clays, upland birds or dove so yes they make it and it's easier to find than ever. So required no but not being able to find...wrong.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

Cabelas usually has 6 and 7 steel in winchester. Although I have not looked this year. I carry them in early teal for dove as well. They work great on teal too.

Better buy your lead shot now before the tree-huggers put they're foot down and get the politians on board! And then be stuck with a bunch of lead shot you can't hunt with any more? I have no doubt lead will be banned eventually. When that time comes I will just embrace the change.

Steel shot IS required for dove on some WMAs. See Alazan WMA. I called them and they confirmed it. Since they flood the fields for ducks.

You are correct. Shotgun hunting in WMAs is a special situation. OP said shooting over a lake with lead shot was illegal. That blanket statement is not correct.

I usually get mine at academy. They run 6.99/box. I started shooting them at teal about 6 yrs ago and they work great. We decided to shoot them at dove when we hunt around our lake now too. 4 yrs ago we started using them to shoot crippled geese and we were amazed at how well they swat geese. If #6 shot will kill turkeys, why not geese. Last yr I shot them at ducks and was even more impressed. Out of an IM choke they just crushed ducks! Ive always been a 3.5" 1550 #2 guy and Some of the guys that hunt with we're skeptical. Didn't take long and they switched. Picked up two cases this week getting ready for the season. I noticed that they switched from 1 oz shot at 1325 to 1 1/8 at 1280. I hope they didn't screw things up.

Dove are not waterfowl. Steel shot is not required. That is why you cannot find any steel dove loads. X2 If you go to Hagerman NWR to hunt dove non-toxic is required. Its out there just hard to find.
