My bow has the capacity to pull 70, and I was shooting it, but was catching holy hell shooting all the 3-D tourneys I was. I dropped it to 63 and hardly had to move my pins. just goes to show how flat shooting today's bows really are.

Well I know my 2011 Z7E is an antiquated bow but the 10lbs makes a big difference with it.

I pull 72 lbs. It lets me shoot heavier arrows faster.

Are you able to shoot now after the surgery and all that?

I wont lie, I am one of the meat heads. Both my setups are heavy draw. One is at 80# and the other is at 83#. But then again I shoot tree trunks at animals. so the heavy draw weight helps out.

With today's bows and small diameter arrows for Texas whitetails the difference between 55 and 70 lbs IMO is how far the arrow is stuck in something on the other side of the deer.

Draw weight should be low enough that you can draw the bow from sitting or standing without going through extra motions or straining even on cold mornings.

FWIW 52 lbs 28.5 inch draw for 245 fps with 100gr Montecs on the hunting arrows from a 16 year old bow. Seems slow by today's standards but still gets the job done.

Yes. I'm still building strength and lost a little range of motion, I won't be playing ball anymore, but I can finally shoot without pain. Just need to build strength and endurance. I was told I should be at about 85% a year after surgery.

I shot 72 for a while, 5-6 seasons. Now I've got a 60# bow maxed at 61#. I'm 26 and can pull th 70, I just don't see the need to anymore.

No, I'm just not as short as others. I'm about 6'4"

If you don't work out now I suggest you start.

Most guys struggle because the only back excercise they get is when they pull their bow back.

Do dumbbell rows and variations of that to strengthen your pulling muscles

Curtis...we're about the same size (however I can't swing from tree to tree as well as you can with the orangutang arms - I'm almost as tall, but only draw 29") and I've shot 70 and 80lb bows since I was a teen. We're built such that pulling a 70lb draw is comfortable and easy to do..but last year I was thinking the same thing you are now about draw weights, and what is really necessary. I picked up a Bowtech Insanity 60lb last year because it was just too good a deal to pass up. I already had a 70lb Insanity so I thought it would be the perfect comparison. Once I got the 60lb bow tuned to my liking I was amazed at how much I enjoyed shooting it, and the amount of energy that was being transferred to the arrows. It's blown arrows through 200lb plus hogs, and big whitetail's in Indiana and Ohio just like with my 70lb bow.

I have the chorno numbers from both bows shooting the same arrows with same DL etc. at the house and I will post the numbers up later so that you can see the direct comparison.
That 60lb insanity eats my 71lb Hoyte Ultratech's lunch (as far as arrow speed and KE with the same shafts) and I have shot a boat load of animals with that bow. I love that Hoyte, but why not get better than comparable performance and hold less weight at full draw?

I have a PSE Omen set at 82lbs and a Bowtech Invasion set at 81LBS that I don't hardly ever shoot anymore because the 60lb bow is such a joy to shoot. The gorilla bows are still fun, but since I am probably not going to make it back to chase large and cantankerous animals in Africa I will probably not shoot them much...and my shooting sessions are longer by far with the 60 vs the 80's....and things like arrows passing all the way through my test target in the garage and killing my water heater don't happen like they do with the 80's.

Really depends on what your goal is for your setup. If I am wanting to shoot a heavy or aggressive broadhead, with a heavy overall arrow weight for maximum penetration and KE at longer range, then the 70 and 80lb bows are the better choice...and that is how I have those bows set up now. If your setup is for shooting at a thin skinned animal in the deer family, then with a 60lb bow you can get great flat trajectory and plenty of energy and penetration.

I don't know, and it is a little hard to admit, that personally I felt a little ashamed to shoot a 60lb bow..it was dumb and prideful of me. They're great, fun and easy to shoot. Get one!

Here's the stats on the bows:
Both bows set to 28.5" draw length.

Draw weight 70lbs / 62.2lbs
-Holding weight 15.4lbs / 13lbs
-385gr arrow @ 325fps / 308fps
- KE 90.32lbs/ 81.12lbs - That's still a lot

Insanity 70lbs w/466gr arrow @298fps
PSE Omen @ 82lbs w/466gr arrow @ 333fps 114LBS KE (29" draw) - Destroys lumenocks and nockturnals if you shoot them into a "block" type target while practicing... I can't find the numbers for the 580gr arrows but if memory serves me it was in the low 290's.

Im 6-foot, I was measured for a 31 inch draw my brother was measured for a 29 and we share a bow we bought together a couple years ago so we just set it at 30 and it works well. The draw is 63 lbs.

I have shot a buddies bow set at 72 and it was not much different than mine to shoot although it had a flatter trajectory.

60 is enough for me and I have to draw in some kind of a funny position in my pop up blind so Ill stick with it. Ive shot the 70 out of it also, just no need.

I shoot at 70 but I'm considering moving down...it's just so much easier drawing 62 from a sitting position. :-)

I used to shoot at 70 but I hurt my back a couple years back so now I am shooting right around 60. Just moved it up from 55 or so. I have a 29.5" draw. At 60 I can still shoot it all day and not feel anything so it works for me as I don't shoot past 40 anyway>
