I'm looking at getting a black mouth cur. I don't get to hunt a whole lot so I want a good companion for the house but also take hunting when I can. I really don't know much about the breed other than they can hunt. Any other breeds I should look at or advice is appreciated.

Blackmouth, catahoula are top two breeds for hog doggers. There are so many different lines to pick from. EX: loose bay, gritty, rough, short , med, long range. They both make excellent companions and are great with kids. I would get one from a reputable breeder, there is a lot of junk out there.

My Catahoula has a lot of hunt in him. Lacys are great dogs as well. My catahoula doubles as a great guard dog and tracks deer. What ever you buy make sure the dog comes from proven hunting stock. Not all dogs can hunt!
