Stopped in the Wal-mart in Hutto. I was surprised to see they do not carry guns. What's up with that?

I believe they have stopped at all stores, corporate decision. Then again I really can not provide first hand knowledge becasue I refuse to go into the place.

No they have not stopped at all stores. Sherman, TX and Durant, OK still have guns with no intent of getting rid of them. It is just the stores that were not moving them. Denison does not have guns now because they were not selling but about 50 a year. The Sporting Goods manager said it was a store by store basis.

Denton, Texas still has guns. Actually I was told most stores couldn't keep the paperwork in order for the Feds.

Worked LP at K-Mart years ago for about a year or so. One of my duties was teh gun inventory. Not one gun sold in 9 months. Right before the store closed I got a Mossberg 500 for $39 and a Mossberg 9200 for $78.99 !!

Also depends on demographics of the area. The new "green" walmart in Highland Village did carry some hunting and fishing gear for a while, now they are getting rid of MOST of it. Their studies showed that they could make more profit on home-based items that could be put in that section...

Most dont have them in the store, but the last time I checked you could still mail order through them. You can look at them online, print the page and go to the store to order it. Prices are still pretty good, just cant touch one till it comes in. This is longs only from what I remember. The ones I have been in has even moved their knive display away from the register, like they will be getting rid of them soon too.

I hate that Wal-Marts all over are cutting back on their hunting and fishing selections, but that is a part of merchandising in modern day America.

On the bright side, the Academy is now open in Tyler and I don't have to depend on Wal Mart for my needs anymore.

My understanding is the stores could no longer keep a corportate FFL license. So if a store wants to stock guns they must have a manager that holds an FFL for the store. Not necessarily true but what I had heard.

Most of the Walmarts that i ave been in lately have moved the hunting and fishing department back in hard to reach areas where the majority of the customers do not go. You would not believe how many customers would complain abount having firearm in plain view or open they were so EVIL and they kill so many people. When these departments were moved, the sales dropped drastically.New stores are now being opened with a very small sporting goods dept - usually limiting hunting and in the future fishing items. Also, I have been told that as older stores are being remodeled, the older stores will take on the layout and looks of the new stores. I believe that Walmart is trying to be poliically correct and will eventually carry only socially acceptable sporting goods. Unfortunately, this means that hunting items are on the way out and the then fishing items.

I tell you, it supprised me. I've been tire kicking picking up a Remington SPR 453 autoloading shotgun. I am amazed at the price difference between the Wal-mart stores, which is why I stopped in Hutto.

In Leesville, LA the shot gun retails for $420; here in Cedar Park, TX is going for $398.00. Orginally the gun was listed for $360.00 when it first caught my eye. Knowing that the price fluctuates from one store to the other, I thought I'd check it out.

Hutto is surrounded by farmland, and I thought surely they carried guns. Like I said, it supprised the heck out of me.

Nacogdoches Wal-Mart still carries guns, probably because we are in East Texas. The hunting section isn't huge, but it covers a good area.

Wal-Marts decision to not sell any more guns at their smaller stores and where they were not moving too well is old news. This happened years ago.

WalMart is the last place I'll go to get anything anymore - if I can help it.

The closest place to me is in New Boston and they carry guns and have good prices, but it's the principle of the deal for me. For example they carried chain binders, electrical parts, plumbing parts, etc, until they ran the small store out of business then they stopped selling them. Try to buy an oil filter for a 1968 engine or a box of #8 x 2 inch self-drilling screws. They conveniently stopped selling such as that after poor old "little man" was ruined.

I assure everyone that walmart's choice to not carry guns was purely economic, they were not moving off the available floor space fast enough at the profit they wanted. Every square inch of that store has a dollar value and if you ain't bringing in the returns you ain't gonna be there long.
