What kind of feeder lights are yall using. We have a problem with racoons and hogs at night. Looking for the best way to see them. Spotlighting seems to be hit or miss and it hard for just one person.

Ducttape the cheap $3.50 solar powered landscape lights fromthe hardware store to the legs. It works great.

I bought the $32 solar powered spotlight at lows and placed it on a post. I painted both sides of the lens with a green permanent marker and it works well. Depending on the amount of sunlight it works for 3 to 6 hours after sunset. Also for just $10 i converted a 6 volt flashlight as well. I removed the battery, taped it to the post, ran wires to the lead of the battery which sat with me in the blind. When the solar powered light died i had the flashlight as a backup. remember to paint the lens and the reflector inside.

I got these LED spotlights at Wal Mart for $50 a pair. They will run all night on a good charge and 2 of them set on a t-post using the PVC I mounted them to puts out plenty of light to shoot by. Aluminum housing and stake, not plastic.

I think people have figured the walmart lights out. I've gone to 5 different wally worlds looking for them and they're always sold out.

I'm sure they are a seasonal thing. I will be buying more this spring.

Perfect timing. At that price I'm ordering more for my feeders.

I get mine at home depot, they take 3 rechargable aa batteries in ea light,if you are worried about the length of charge just put some normal double aa batteries in them before the hunt, lights will be on nice and bright the whole weekend, when you leave swap the rechargeables back in, thats what I do anyways.

It's still "we the people", right?

Damn! I consider myself a pretty smart guy but you just made me feel like an idiot! I didn't even think of this option especially since I have the same lights. Thanks for turning on that simple light in my head. LOL. See that is why I am here to learn something new and this piece is valuable in my book.

I have been developing high output solar powered feeder lights just for fun. To turn the lights on/off, I can use either a timer, photocell, or remote relay. Each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

My first model uses a dusk to dawn switch and is very maintenance free. The disadvantage is that it runs all night, every night using more power. That requires a pretty large solar panel and battery. My cost to build is over $150.

My second model uses a smaller panel and battery but only runs when activated by a remote switch like a garage door opener. I don't know many hunters that will stay out past 2:00 a.m. anyway. My cost to build this one is over $125.

My third model uses a timer to activate the light. This requires you to change timing as the seasons change and sizing of the battery and solar panel depending on the length of time you want the light to run. Of course, the longer the light runs, the more power you need to store and the more the costs go up.

The lights I use come in red, green, blue, or white. They draw just over 2 watts and will easily illuminate the feeder area. I mount the whole rig on a pole about 15 feet toward my stand from the feeder. I use a reflector to direct the light toward the feeder and prevent glare back at me.

I'm still working on the design for these. I realize they are pricy but they are better than any light I have been able to find on the Internet. I really like hog hunting and have found the solar yard accent lights available at Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot to be barely adequate. The hog lights that attach to a feeder with magnets is a reliable light but still not bright enough to suite me.

I haven't made any of these for sale and don't plan to do that until my development and testing is complete. I may in the future. So, I'm being purposely vague about the specifications and materials I'm using.

Norm
