I would love to do a classic Elk wilderness hunt in the mountains (horses, wall tents, etc.) and am looking for a qualified and reputable outfitter. I am more of a meat hunter but wouldn't mind a nice rack. Any recommendations, preferably from personal experience?

Medicine Lake Outfitters out of Bozeman, MT.
I've hunted with them twice and killed 2 6xs, not monsters, but respectable. Classic pack in, wall tents, etc. You should start planning now for 2014. PM me if you'd like more details.

I'm willing to travel but was thinking Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, etc. Not married to any one place or location, just looking for a good experience.

Also, I know I am late to the game for '13 so 2014 is my plan.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have you used anyone in those areas that you could recommend?

I hunted with Bull Valley Outfitters in New Mexico a couple of years ago and plan on going back in the next year or two. I killed a rag horn bull and 2 guys in camp killed roughly 300-320 bulls. The only hunter that didn't kill, shot missed one and wounded another. PM me sometime and I'll give you more details.

If your not dead set on a wilderness hunt, or a tent camp, I highly suggest TNT, texas boy guiding out of durango CO, assuming your in shape. Prices are very reasonable.

Lot of guys on here have hunted with him.

This will be my third year bowhunting with him

Prophet Muskwa in British Columbia. Bulls are not legal until they have six points on at least one beam. You can also do multi species hunts with them.

In Colorado use Jim Brink. For Idaho Ken Francisco.
Both run the kind of outfit you looking for and are extremely hard working. No disappointments nor excuses. Lots of country they have. And each hunt is just you or your group; they not packing in a long string of others to deal with.
