Looking at getting a .257 Roberts or weatherby mag. Anyone have any opinions or suggestions on either one? I'm shooting a .308 right now and looking for something different. Thx

like comparing a Honda civic to a Corvette ZO6.
the .257 is a fine whitetail round comparible to a .243 with a tad more umph, the .257 wby mag is a bad mamma jamma that can reach way out there and thump deer, sheep, goats, antelope and caribou and elk
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Not really a valid comparison there. Like comparing your .308 to a 300 Wby Mag. Check out the ballistics on the 2. The same 100 grain bullet is about 500 FPS faster and 500 Ft lbs of energy greater shot out of the Wby. Recoil is significantly greater as well. You can google Chuck Hawkes Rifle Chart and compare them.

Hornady ammo is very light in 257wby. If your going to compare it use weatherby ammo. Because I can run the 257wby 80gr ttsx to almost the exact Ke at 500 as the 6.5 creedmore, with a lot flatter trajectory. My vote 257wby, if you can't handle the recoil of an 80gr bullet, its a said day

257 Roberts has been taking game without a lot of muss and fuss for a long time. It is just a 7X57 necked down for .257 diameter bullets. Great deer round IMO for shots inside 300 or so. Had one for a while and never needed more than one shot for pigs, fallow, black buck and whitetails.
the 257 Roy is another beast, flat shooting fast bullets that do more on impact with big critters than some would believe. Elk are no problem for the Roy as long as the shooter can do their job and put the bullet where it belongs.

Get a 257 Roberts or maybe a 25/06, assuming you're a typical Texas deer hunter b

The bob is a nice soft recoil round. My wife has one. I'm wanting a 6.5 swede.

Yes a 140 will over 500. But we aren't talking 0ver 500. How many calibers can you shoot 100, 200, 300, 400 and still be in the same 7" circle When simple sighted in at 1.85 high at a 100.

Both will work fine. Why the change? The 308 is way better in the BC dept!

That doesn't factor into my thinking. Wind drift does though.

If you are going to hunt in Texas, keep your .308, great caliber. If you are getting the 257 Bob for a wife of child like I did, then it is a great choice. All depends on your purpose.

Look at the cost of ammo as well if you don't reload.

That doesn't factor into my thinking. Wind drift does though. Absolutely. ...but then again we are talking under 500

Still matters. I've held wind, under 500, way too many times to be convinced otherwise. BC bucks wind.

257 Wby is awesome, built one for a buddy on here last year. I am a die hard 25-06 fan, and it made me second guess myself. Even though I reload, for Texas the 25-06 will git r dun. Next build is going to be a 6.5-284 though.

If you do reload you will find the standard 257 Roberts has more case stretch the something like the 243 if you shoot full power hunting rounds. Need to trim cases and watch case length
