I know I am beating a dead horse here but this was my first post on this subject:

Quote:

I will say a lot of the guys on MLDP land do not want anyone else on there except the usual crowd that they trust. Many are managing for big bucks and a great herd and do not trust anyone they have not known for years. I know of stories of guys swearing there have hunted whitetails forever only to go out and kill an exotic deer thinking it was a whitetail... Many of the big ranches have to deal with poachers and having outsiders there would make the problem worse as people could access these places more than ever. You would have to limit the deer shot to does only probably to take away the issue of judging a cull.

CHC - Thanks for you replies and nothing taken personal now. I have an opinion too and like to chime in on interesting topics like this as it is one that can make a different for all of us. I never bring up age, intelligence, experience, or make assumptions about people because they appear to read as 'I told you so and know more type of statements' typically. You did all of those. My first post was just stating that the landowners would not probably not like that and that is fact. How was that taken out of context I don't know. I said nothing was wrong about your proposal and even said it probably would need to be limited to does or spikes. I was in agreement with you 100% and even threw some #'s out in the second post. I just didn't see where some of those personal attacks came from since neither I or Outback said anything personal at you at all and were stating facts that would have to be addressed in any proposal drafted to the state. The state is going to ask the same questions becuase they would have to answer for them. I would like to see you or us draft a proposal to the state on this. All sides need to be taken into account though so they just don't throw it out. I would think a 1 for 1 tag would cause many landowners to abandon the MLDP program altogether so there would not be any additional public hunts. A different ratio would have to be in the proposal in my opinion for them to consider it. I might be wrong but that is my gut.

There is a ranch in Fannin County on this program and you can go shoot a doe there for about $150 total. $50 to hunt a day a $100 for a kill fee. That is probably what the state would charge someone to hunt in this proposed program anyway due to the costs they would incur. Plus, many ranches in the program are in far places away from metro area's so there is the cost to the hunter of gas and lodging. I know the WMA's are far as well though so the same thing arises but you can shoot bucks there which most people want these days.

And Websters.com says 'several' is Being of a number more than two or three but not many. Could be three, four, or five but not more than that. Always three in my book.

Sir, I extend my sincere apologies if for some reason we have gotten on the wrong foot or sideways with one another.

It is only my opinion, but I feel this forum was designed as a "discusion" area, where we could share ideas and experiences, and we do that rather well, but sometimes we come upon a topic that has heart strings and personal feelings attached. Those are the subjects for which sides will be chosen and lines drawn.

I have no doubt that I can come up with some pretty stupid comments, and as long as we all understand this is fur our enjoyment, not a source of frustration, then I think we can all have fun with it as well.

The first place to start mending fences is on your own property... so again, my humbel apologies.

In going back over the posts the three of us have made on this subject, I see where I said stuff that could be taken wrong. I also see stuff that both you and Outback said, that could be taken wrong.

Such as the statement in Outbacks post saying, " You see CHC there are a lot of dishonest people out there." to me that is pretty patronizing, it is like saying, " Well, you, (referring to me) just don't realize how dishonest people are." Well, yes I do, but I also know from experience that these type programs work.

As for the business about my always throwing in the age/experience card into play, how about your statement that "Hunting is a passion to us, not a game." I just thought it would be nice, if it was kept in mind that I have been deer hunting since before it became a big business and have witnessed the changes to the sport first-hand.

Maybe it is the fact that I said this was going to be a hunting opportunity. I was wrong in saying that. If this was adopted by TP&W and all of the MLD participants that wanted to stay in the program participated, it would not be an actual hunting opportunity, it would be a killing opportunity. Private vehicles wouldn't be allowed on the property, and the shooters would be driven either to a stand and put in it along with TP&W personnel or trained ranch personal, and they would only shoot what they were told to. This would also work taking them out in high rack pick-ups.

Also on a lot of the WMA's they have both doe and buck hunts, bucks are not legal on every hunt or every area.

The only way anything would ever be presentable to TP&W, is for all deer hunters in the state, or a majority of them, to put aside personal differences, and with an open mind to the possibilities formulate a proposal that TP&W might take under consideration. If that proposal was an extention of an exiting program, it would have a greater chance of being instituted.

And I think the landowners involved with the MLD program have too much at stake, to risk losing it. The reason I say that, is that under the MLD, they can start gun hunting on those properties during part of archery season and go until the middle of Jan. or so. If they weren't in the MLD program they would be confined to the general season for the county they are in for their gun hunts.

So far, of the two, you are the only one offering suggestions, Outback is just posting stuff about how wrong I am and that nothing will work. I haven't seen one single bit of factual evidense from him about why nothing would work, except the landowners won't go for it. As I have said, and will continue to say, the landowners only choice in this will be if they want to keep ther MLD status and the advantages it brings them. I have no problem with people stating an opinion on a subject, I have a problem when some cheer-leader from the peanut gallery, starts trying to point out someone else's faults, without giving any opinion on the topic.

I tried to fix this, but ya know what, after reading this... I think I retract my apology. I have better things to do than argue, rather than debate, with the irrational meanderings of someone who, by self proclimation, knows it all. Count me out of the conversation... get all your answers, solve all your problems... just ask CHC. What a bummer thread....

How about I got $20.00 that says I don't give a (fill in the blank) about what you think you can do. I'll even give you the pick of the first letter of the word, out of these three, D, F, or S. See if you can spell as good as you shoot.

Lets see, D = dang, darn, dang-it or darn it, and dad-gum-it will work for that letter, of course there is always the obvious, but I don't use that kind of language.

F = flip, fart (even though that is a little risque), flitter, but that one isn't too widely known or used.

S = Oh well, two out of three ain't bad for me. There ain't no alternatives for that one.... OH WAIT!!! this is a hunting forum... Shoot, yeah that is it.

Sorry to confuse and make you think any one on here would use bad language.

Let’s see… use of colorful metaphors…, hummm, generally infers inability to provide a formidable response. Must be a liberal.

Can you tell me where it is? The only one I know of charges a lot more than that.

I think ya'll all had some good points. And I think if we were sitting around a campfire instead of a D@$$ computer, we'd come to an agreement, at least before someone had to go piss and get a beer.

Thanks for the post sig... but it got too hot, and no where, so I bailed... but I have been lurking to see what others thought... and you have a very valid point.

Wishing all tidings and joy for the holidays... including CHC.

Sig - here you go:

LoJo Ranch . Pay their $50 day fee. $100 kill fee for doe or hog. And less than 2 hours from Dallas. Just don't shoot a buck or you'll be in the poor house! This really sounds like a great place for someone just getting into hunting and it is under MLDP. This is an exception to the norm but is a great example of how a ranch under current MLDP can provide very economical hunting opportunities. I think last year their kill fee was only $75 or so. I don't know anyone that has been there but found them somehow when looking for duck hunts since we hunt Fannin on or need the River for ducks. (when there is water though...)

No need for a truce or the peace pipe. You were just stating your opinions, and as long as you stick to the subject, I have no problem. Calling someone something like a liberal, when you know nothing about them except from what they write in their posts, can get on ones nerves.

I have no problem with you Outback, I just ask that you keep in mind that all of us are on here to have fun, and share ideas, gossip, knowledge, BS, or whatever, because we want to. Now with that in mind, we ALL need to keep in mind that we are ALL individuals, and weren't raised the same way or have the same level of education or have the same personal values on anything. It doesn't make any of us any better or any worse than anybody else on The Forum.

We just all need to remember that the thing that has us on here, is the one thing we all share, our love for hunting and the outdoors.

CHC

Thanks for the holiday blessings.

Respectfully, I think I will decline to comment on any aspect or topic from our prior conversations, in as much as I think the convictions and opinons are still the same. The most important thing to to result from this is that we can agree to disagree.

Be well, and no hard feelings.
