On Sunday July 29th my black lab, Caymus, and I were on a normal walk when he took off after a deer. He often chases after rabits and squirels and such. I can usually call him off, but this time it was different. He ran through some brush and I heard him whimpering a bit. I thought the deer had kicked him. When I walked up on him I saw some blood dripping, but not much. I rolled him over on his side and saw a huge stick sticking about 2 feet out of him. I wasn't sure how deep it was, so I pulled on it and it wasn't going anywhere. I had to have emergency surgery on him. This pic is pretty graphic, so I apologize if you have a queezy stomach. I have set up a fundraiser for his medical bills, if you feel so inclined. https://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/caymus-get-well-soon-fundraiser/77498 Thanks for looking. I hope he gets better soon. They have removed the stick and stitched him up.

That poor baby. He's a beauty. Hope all is well with him now.

Thank you to those that have already donated. I did not expect any, but every donation helps. Thank you, and he is doing a little better, but still has a long ways to be his normal self.

One time on public land my GSP Sallie was running a brush line, I hear her yelp and comes running back to me as she comes to my side I see her mouth is gushing blood at first I was stunned seeing her tongue cut but next thing was what did It some idiot threw out his old slab from a porch and my dog was trailing in tall grass and impelled her mouth right into a piece of rebar I was so mad she healed fine. Glad to see dog doing good.

Aw, man. I'm sorry. I really hate seeing dogs hurt.

Did it puncture any internal organs? That looks like it went pretty deep =(

It was about 6-7 inches deep, but luckily didn't hit any intestines. Which surprised the heck out of me.

Poor pup, hope everything heals up good. Dang that looked painful!
Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Had that happen to one of my coon dogs several years ago. She was running a track and then I hear her start yelping like she was hurt so I ran to her and when I got to her she had a stick about that size shoved thru her chest. She wasnt so lucky to live. Hope yours makes a full recovery.

Sorry to hear about your dog, Ronnie. Mine is recovering pretty good for a 12 year old dog. We got lucky, but the vet clinics really put it to you. $4300 later, he is doing alright.
