Any reviews or input on Rio shells? Looking to buy a case of dove loads. Is there any difference in those an the standard Winchester or Remington dove loads?
Also I saw the Rio Blue Steel is pretty dang cheap. Anybody ever used these? Seems to me like they would be similar to xperts.

We shot a case of them last week. No complaints. I saw 2 different ones. We got 2 cases of the ones at Academy for busting clays this month. I picked up 1 case of Rio high brass for the first 2 weekends and 2 cases of the Remington dove loads for the season. No rhyme or reason in that choice other than I wanted a hotter shell for opening weekend. Case price - LB Rio 7 1/2 $54.90 Academy in Grapevine HB Rio 7 1/2-1 1/4oz $97.50 Cabelas in Fort Worth(I have high expectations! lol) Remington Dove 7 1/2 $67.50 Academy in White Settlement
The HB Rios are the most I have spent on dove shells but wanted to give them a shot. They will have to perform pretty well or its back to the cheap Rios, Rem Dove load has always been a good performer.

I have gone through 5 cases of Rio's. Honestly can't say I dropped any more birds shooting Rio's than I have with Remington or Winchester. For dove I plan on shooting the cheaper stuff in the future.

I've only used their full load 00 buck in 2-3/4" 12ga in high brass so far, and I can tell you that they had all the balls that I expected - in every sense of the word.
I bought a couple of cases case last time I was in there about two weeks ago. They were on sale for about $0.40/round if I recall, and I will buy a lot more cases next time if they are on the shelf.
Haven't bothered to verify the velocity because of how hard they obviously hit, way downrange, but I'm sold. Can't tell you about their other loads, but I would be willing to try them in the field - based on what I know so far!
For 2-3/4" 00 buck, they are the best $/performance ratio I have found so far.
Just my opinion....YMMV...

I shot about the same average of dove with Rio shells as I did with the higher priced shells.

For doves it doesn't matter what you shoot...not sure why people spend big money for dove loads
As far as steel shot goes, I like em a lot. As far as quality goes, they are better than the xperts for sure. Pellets are at least round, unlike xperts.
Xperts will do the job, but why buy those when you can get rios or federals in the blue box.

The only thing that I don't like about them is that they don't take a 209 primer , so you can't reload them. Other than that they're not bad

Rios have good quality components and are priced really low...it's win win. I've probably shot 8 cases worth over the last 5 or 6 years since.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

Xperts will do the job, but why buy those when you can get rios or federals in the blue box. sort of. shooting mourning doves as they are coming to a tank is different than shooting high flying whitewings. but....most people over shell themselves. a buddy only shoots Winchester high brass at $12/box. he kills them at 60-70 yards but I don't feel that's necessary. all the outfitters are pushing rio shells hard, I normally shoot Winchesters but I just picked up a flat of rio game loads and are gonna give them a try. From everyone I hear, they are a good load at a fair price. IMO Remington heavy dove loads are way overrated. I had the best luck with 1 oz. Winchester super speeds. if I really need to get serious or show off I shoot Remington nitro 27's or Winchester AA super handicaps

I have shot Rio's for dove the last 3 seasons. You won't be disappointed in the range of these shells for the price. A high flying white wing better be about 100 yards high to feel safe.
The Blue steel is a decent shell as well. This is only the 2nd or 3rd season they have offered steel loads so I'm sure they are improving.

The HB Rios are the most I have spent on dove shells but wanted to give them a shot. They will have to perform pretty well or its back to the cheap Rios, Rem Dove load has always been a good performer. Last year I used the Low Brass Rios from Cabelas 1 1/8 oz for $59.99 .. Loved them the best year I had . Wasn't sure if it was the Rios or the Browning Golden Clays Sporting Clays Semi Auto with 30" Barrel I also bought at Cabelas . I am also going to try the HB Rio Texas Dove Load from Cabelas this year . You said they were $97.50 ? I thought they were $94.99 though ? If I buy today I have a 10% off card so that should make them a reasonable $84.99 . I also use the Rio 00 Buck and #4 Buck . Cant beat the price at Cabelas $11.99 for 25

I got the 20 gauge Rio's at Academy and I like them so far. For the price they are a good load, 1 oz at 1250 fps for $5.49 a box.

Just bought my case of rios for 69.99. These shells are great for the money. I love the blue steel as well, I know a place that sells 3 inch 3's and 4's for 9.99 a box. That's my little secret though, they don't keep a big stock.

I'm still shooting 39.99/case Rio that I bought around '05. No problem with them. I use them for dove and Sporting Clays.
I think I'm down to only 11 or 12 cases. Of course, I have now moved all that "cheap" ammo twice, the last time I paid movers to haul it up four flights of stairs... no telling what the real cost is now:).
We all need to practice Whoa more.

only reason to worry is if shooting and Auto and the pressure is off I have only seen it happen once one friend wouldn't eject the Rios and another wouldn't eject some high brass heavy Winchester loads they swapped and we had a great day of course a bad day hunting is still a good day I have always shot a pump this is my 1st year with an auto

There a good shell for the price. A little dirty but a good shell can't be any worse than the federals. that is like shooting a black powder shell

The rio 20ga are 1oz high brass for 55 a flat @ academy. They will kick the #%^*#> out of u in a light gun. Basically a 12ga load 2 3/4 dram.
My 1 0z in same gun ( 12ga 391vs20ga 391) in 12ga almost has no felt recoil.
They are an awesome shell for quail and will massacre the dove. As good as long range Remis for less than 1/2 the price.
Too hot for high volume though

1 1/4 oz.....OVERKILL.
That's a pigeon load.
European 7/8 rios will kill as many birds. Too macho for me.
BTW, the 20ga rio 1oz are high brass-1oz 2 3/4 dram
