Well Camp Bullis had it's stand drawing today....470ish people showed up for 218 possible stands.

I didn't get drawn this year so it looks like I'm gonna have to start begging and maybe trading out some labor for a chance to hunt.

Congrats to the folks that got a stand (if anyone is on here). Was crazy to see that many folks show up.

I just got stationed here at JBSA. I was selected and chose an archery stand right next to the impact area in training area 6A. Does anyone know if that area is any good? I have not been here long and didn't have time to scout or anything. Any advice on any of the training areas there would be much appreciated. Looking forward to hunting in Texas! Thanks, Will

Which stand did you get in 6A?

I picked number 18. There were lots of options in most training areas to choose from but I was essentially picking blind. Hopefully it is decent.

I had to go back and look at the new map, as I didn't remember there being 18 stands in area MA-6A. It looks like 6A-18 is the old 6A-7 stand. I've never hunted or scouted that one, but I know there were deer pulled out of surrounding areas. The old areas I had marked are moved now - 6B-1, 6B-2, and 6B-4 used to be in that little bump out that goes into area MA-6A. Now those are labeled 6A stands, and not in the same spot - 6A-13, 6A-14, and 6A-15, even though they are technically in area TA-6B. Odd.

Should be a pretty easy area to get to, and quickly too. I think you can go up Louis Valley Road and take one of several dirt roads into your area. The maps suck. I use Google maps a lot to find my way around (remember - the coordinates are in UTM's, NAD27 (not WGS-84, so you have to change the datum on your GPS if you are using one), Zone 14N. Going by the coordinates for 6A-7, this should be your area (approximate):

Cajuntec,
Thanks a bunch for the info. I'll let you know how it goes there.

Congrats on getting picked...I was gonna do it, but the drve from Ft Hood and the likely chance of not getting drawn were just too much to overcome to drive that far!!

usafeod509,
If you don't mind, shoot me a PM when you head there next time. I try to meet as many people as I can. You never know when you might need someone to tow you out of a muddy area, or render some other kind of emergency help, so I try to exchange cell phone / email with other hunters in the area. I have always thought it was a good thing to "know your neighbors" when you are in the woods.
All the best,
Glenn

Glenn,
I will do that for sure. It will probably be a week or two. I'm still waiting to get all my stuff shipped here from Florida. Pkpxavier, thanks a lot for the info. Are you at Lackland?

I am pleasantly surprised with the help and information sharing on here. It was like trying to pull teeth asking about fishing info when I was stationed in Florida.

I am pretty new to the Texas hunting regulations. Are the deer taken on Camp Bullis tagged with the regular tags or are the managed lands different tags? Thanks again.

Awesome! I too got a stand on Bullis. 6A-14 right across the road from you. Saturday morning I saw 3 doe a few yearlings and a spike on Lewis Valley right in our area. I talked to Martin at the lodge and he says there is a big buck in the area with drop tines. Your stand backs right up to the impact zone, sounds bad but it's not. They know they are safe in the impact area so that's where they hang out. It's disgusting how many I see when we are out on the firing line. Refer back to the pic, the orange dot is also right next to s creek, it doesn't hold water but when it rains you better have some waders smile 6A7 is still there it's a bit north of you on the other end of the open field. I am placing a feeder and two blinds, in my area. Like to have options. I have worked out at bullis for almost two years and can tell you there is a lot of whitetail, and some very big ones at that. Hogs are always around and the turkey like to hang out in the open field. Well good luck to you, hope this helps. PM me for further.
Austin
