I have feeder with a timer that's shorted out on me and I can't find a new one with the same bolt pattern. My time is short this weekend so I don't feel like I can empty the feeder, take it down, remove the funnels, drill out some new holes, bolt on a new motor/timer, and set all back up. I'm thinking of getting a new feeder and setting with some lag screws. Anyone do this before?

Geez...not everybody at once....doesn't anyone want to help me be a little lazy?
Anyway...I think a good set of toggle bolts will solve my problem....have a good night.

I have used sheet metal screws in legs before in a pinch. Don't see why they wouldn't work for the feeder too. Unless the vibration of the feeder gets to them.

Is it just the timer? If so, just get a new timer...
Of course, I might be missing something here...

I always use lag bolts...makes it easier to remove or replace. #10s work well

We always have screwed ours on with sheet metal screws. Never had one come loose. With the barrel still full and upright.....duct tape the funnel opening to save your corn. Unbolt the old timer, screw on the new one, remove the tape. Just don't over torque the screws. I use a nut driver rather than a drill motor to tighten the screws so that I can feel how tight they are before stripping out.

Self tapping screws are the way to go but you might have to use a drill motor to get them started. Switch over to the nut driver like LKT said.

Great point about not over tightening the screws
