The wife is not fond of armadillos, so they are always shoot-on-sight. I had one out in the front pasture tonight, at maybe 150 yards or a bit further. I could see him with the bright spotlight and binocs, but when I got the trusty Hawkeye and the red pig-shootin light, I could not get a bead on the critter. Just couldn't quite see him. I had a new battery in the light. I wonder if a green light would give me more dillo shooting range.

I have the red and green cree's for my lights (XLR250's I think) I use the red for hogs and they are only good for about 75 yds. If shooting over 75 yds or shooting small varmints I use the green cree. Doesn't scare them too bad and its good for up to 200 yds with a good scope.

I have the XLR 100 equivalent in red and it goes on my bow and works to about 50 yds. The green 250 is good to about 150 for still being able to ID the animal but will shine eyes further. I've just about quit using all the colored lights and just use the spotlight.

For armadillos, get a white light and a pair of steel toed boots, just approach from downwind and try to be reasonably quiet.

If you gotta shot them, use a white light.

The green and red lights are nice but a deer, rabbits, dillos and lots of other game just blend into the background and are hard to detect unless they move while you are looking right at them.
A white light preserves the colors thru a scope.

Well bless you for trying to save the endangered dillo. Truth is that they would not be in danger at all around here if my wife wasn't working so hard to have great flower beds around the house. The dillos dig up the flower beds. Can't have that, or 'Mama ain't happy', and you know what that means.

I agree with the guys above. The red light isn't bad out to about 100 yds. With my green, I can see animals through the scope at 200 plus.

Use a white light, as far the flower beds put out grub treatment, the dillos are only there to eat, take away their food and they'll leave.
