Anyone hunting Kansas unit 12 this year? We're hunting private land a few miles North of Independence.

Our family farm is about 10 miles north of Independence. Lots of deer and turkey in the area. If you got enough land to hold them and let them grow, P&Y or B&C is very obtainable.

Pittstate we are staying in a hotel in Neodesha. Probably pretty close to your farm. We are just outside Independence to the north, our south border is the Elk River. We only have 500 acres but a lot of timber. We'll be selective in what we take. Just hope the neighbors are.

Capt., Neodesha is exactly where I am from. Have you stayed in the hotel before? There is one in town, which is mainly used as apartments (very nasty) and one out of town heading north towards Topeka. It isn't the cleanest either..... Our farm is about 4 miles from that hotel. You will be surprised at how the folks around there let them grow. If you have time, head in town to Bumpy's (bar and grill with good food). Some of the locals just might show you some pics on their cell phones that will blow you away.
BTW, 500 acres in that area is like 10k plus acres in many parts of Texas when you are comparing carrying capacity. If you look at QDMA maps, Montgomery county Kansas has the highest deer density in Kansas (or close, it changes year over year) and rivals the Hill Country in Texas.

Cool that's great to hear. And yes we are staying at the Neodesha Inn. The lady rented us two 2 bedrooms for the whole month of November for pretty cheap. Is the other motel (twin rivers) a little better? The lady said we could bring a grill and cook outside if we wanted to but then I did the street view on google maps and it looks like just an old office building they have turned in to an inn. There doesn't look like there is a parking lot where we could "tailgate" during the day. Do you have any other suggestions for lodging? We rented a house last year in Northern Kansas for November and that worked out real well. But it belonged to the landowner. Is "bumpies" in Neodesha?

Bumpy's is in Neodesha, across the street from Twin rivers Motel. The Hotel you are staying in was built in the late 70's by a family I know very well. It use to have an Inn, a restaurant and a convention center (three buildings). All but the inn burned down (oh, wonder how that happened!) and I believe the convention center was rebuilt into a Church. It is an okay place, but it stinks of strong food odor (Curry and such). It is not nice, but okay for men that are hunting. My wife will not stay there. Oil and natural gas is big in the area, so rentals are tough. I know someone there that does rentals. I could ask him if he had anything open, but you probably already paid for the Inn.
BTW, if you are hunting in November, the deer will be on the acorns like crazy. The like to come out to the soybeans, wheat and corn fields early evening and you can catch them running the river/creeks during the day. I love hunting the rut in mid November there.

I haven't paid for the room yet. Just reserved it. Not sure if the smell of curry will go over well with us in the mornings haha. Is Twin rivers a little nicer? It's cool (and safer) that it's within walking distance of the bar. Ask your buddy if he has anything if you don't mind. We are responsible and will take care of his stuff. Only problem is, we only need it for November, and possibly December too. So that might not interest him.

No, outfitter. We hunted walk in land last year and leased a little too. This year we Are hunting private land only. Pm me and I'll tell you everything I know, which isn't much. This is only my second year to hunt kansas, but I love it and will never pay to hunt texas again.

Anyone hunting Kansas unit 12 this year? We're hunting private land a few miles North of Independence. You won't be disappointed for sure. Unit 12 and 14 are both good for monster deer. Grew up in KS and shot my first deer/8 point south of Hepler, KS. That was many, many years ago. Good luck.

My wife grew up in Rosehill, so that's the area I will be hunting. I think it's 15.
