What would be y'all's best recommendation for food for a lab pup that is 8 weeks old, I currently have her on purina puppy chow and doesn't seem like it very much.
If it flys it dies

I feed and recommend Purina Pro Plan Performance for all life stages. This is a hot debate but just know a few things so that you can make an informed decision.
According to all the research that I have done the recommended protein to fat ratio for puppies, working dogs, lactating bitches, and those carrying puppies is 30/20 or greater. Most of the nutritional value comes from fat so don't skimp on that, especially during development. EPA and DHA are also recommended for brain development and a joint package with glucosamine, condroitin or both is generally recommended.
Be sure to look where the protein is coming from. This means that meat should be at the top of the list at the very least and some want a completely grain free formula. Some will argue that corn is not a good source of protein however this is where most mid priced foods get a lot of it. Do your research and make an informed decision. Don't let price dictate what you buy either. Buy what does well for your dogs coat, stool quality and overall health and performance.

I feed Purina Pro Plan Puppy. I guess I can't argue much with Pro Plan Performance/Sport 30/20 but guess Purina wouldn't make the puppy feed if it wasn't giving the pups something they need.

Consumer reports did a study several years ago and concluded that puppy food was not necessary.

I see a lot of members of this forum and also other forums feed purina pro plan. I have done some research and found pro plan is actually not too good and pretty over priced. Here is an analysis of the ingredients. Might change some peoples minds on pro plan. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=1400&cat=7

Purina Proplan chicken and rice puppy. If you feed something different, I highly recommend that you make sure that it has Calcium. Tyson www.oksetters.com

Can't be to bad... lots of high strung trial dogs on it with no problem...I've had one shorthair on it for years.... he loves it. He looks good. He gets roaded with chains three times a week and swims two days a week.

He gets roaded with chains three times a week and swims two days a week. Yeah, this review was pretty bogus. I don't just say that because it's what I feed but like anything you have to be educated about something before making an informed decision. I almost laughed out loud when it said that fat caused an increase in bloat in some dogs. Really!?!?! No kidding. Chicken fat is used to make to food taste better. You think the dogs will eat it faster? A 7th grader could have come up with that hypothesis. How about why palatability is a good thing? Didn't mention that. Put your field trial lab on a holistic food that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. It will give you a question to ask about when they are losing weight like crazy, won't eat, and their hair is falling out. WOW!!!

I was about to post this same question. My pup is 10 weeks and has been on Purina puppy chow. Just adding this to my watched list to see what all input everyone has.

We are a Eukanuba camp here. Dogs love it and perform very well on it. I've fed everything and I have found Eukanuba to be the most palatable, kept weight on the dogs the best and had the most consistent stool. Plus you can buy it ANYWHERE!! Angie

We actually got Neutro for the new BMC pup we picked up last week but she wont touch it. We are having to mix it with Pro Plan (boxer and american eskimo do great on it, no sheading) to get her to touch it and get the DHA she needs.

Palatability, weight, and stool is the key.
