I know this has been asked but I am having a hard time finding this topic but in my gravity feeder I mixed protein with corn to get the deer started around 40% corn 60% protein but the deer really haven’t taken to it and it is still pretty full, I was wondering if I could do something like add one of these powdered deer attractants acorn rage or what not to help get them to eat it up but I don’t want the attractant to clump up and ruin the protein while in the gravity feeder anyone ever try this or have an idea that dosnt involve me emptying the feeder to add a higher concentration of corn?

how long has the feed been in the feeder, give it a little more time. Have you looked to see if all the corn is gone they tend to not stay mixed.

it has been up since mid-April and I am the first on this lease to put up a gravity protein feeder and even to protein feed so I thought it would take a little longer but didnt know how long and when I pulled out some of the protein and corn mixture from the funnel it still looked pretty well mixed

Is the feeder in a feed pen? If so how large is the pen and what is it made of? DO you have a spin feeder in with it?

Yes I did build a pen, it does have a spin feeder in it as well and when I went up there last I did see deer tracks jumping in and out of the feed pen and all the corn from the spin feeder had been eaten up, it is made up of 150 ft. maybe more of field fencing 36 inches high ( used 2, 36 x 100 rolls of the field fencing), I wanted to use hog panels but had no way to get them to the lease but I put t-post about every 3 ft but for on game trails leading into the pen we gave about a 5 foot gap to make sure they didn’t have anything getting in the way of them jumping in or out.

I have a small ranch at Hebbronville, and the deer have not touched the protein there either. Have been lucky and we have gotten some rain everything at ranch green. I think they rather eat fresh greens then dry protein right now.

Training deer to jump into a feed pen can be very difficult on some places. Once you get them in the pen then training them to the protein feeder will be a bit easier. If or when they need extra they will eat out of the feeder in time.

So yall think I should give it some more time and not add anything to the protein? And I am pretty sure they are not having a problem getting into the pen I would be 100% sure but unfortunately when I went up last to check the game cam pics I found out it had been stolen so I can only tell by the tracks that were in the pen

I put out a protein feeder in a feed pen this past late winter/early spring, had it with a spinner throwing corn and mixed the protein and corn in the gravity protein feeder for first several hundred pounds. I figured on about 7-10 deer eating daily so I wanted a big feeder but didn't fill it but for about 400 pounds initially. Cam was on it all the time and saw plenty of deer action, but none went to the protein feeder. Ate corn all day around it, but never once went to the nozzle to grab some. Boss Buck with 4 tubes.

I think I should have gone with a plate type but being myself and no farm equipment other than a pickup, I had no way to move a metal plate style like a feedermax (that's what I wanted) so I opted for the boss buck. I have not seen any poly/plastic plate or trough style feeders out there.

My next place will have a plate style protein feeder and I will continue to use the Boss buck with spinner attachment. I still have the option of switching the boss buck back to protein at any point, so that is a good thing about the boss buck units. However, I would start with a plate trough and get the deer feeding on protein before trying a tube style again. If only Boss buck (or some other company) made a plate style trough for their feeders...
