It left from here, (Kiewit Offshore Services-Ingleside, Tx), down the CC Ship Channel & out the jetties in Port Aransas. Yes there are men, (limited) on it during sail away.

I do some offshore stuff, but not much. Our Galena Park facility gets most of the offshore jobs. Guess I'll stick to the desert oil for the time being. Applications Engineer for MRC's Automation division btw.

She's big... even for a TLP.
How deep of water is she going in?

When did they move it? I played Northshore Saturday morning and didn't even notice it missing from the horizon.

Yes, she's staying in the Gulf. It sailed weekend before last, (just over a week ago). Will be floating in 3,000 ft of water so kinda shallow. grin I was on the Shell Perdido Platform floating in 8,000 ft.

The rig above is Shell Olympus. Chevron Big Foot & Chevron Jack Saint Malo are still here being built, they're both monsters as well...

As big as they are, in the midst of a storm, they're not near big enough for comfort.

Cool photos Skinner. I saw the headlines on this in the Port A newspaper. Wish I could I could have seen in person.

Yes sir. I've rode out a couple of smaller storms on those things & you move around pretty good. Of course, a major storm & we shut her in & get the heck out of there. grin

Probably the most striking and humbling things, at least to me, about being on a vessel as large as one of these are, and being "way" offshore... I'm talking 150-200 miles where you can actually see the curvature of the earth... is how very small and insignificant it makes you feel on this earth. Especially when the sea gets rockin! It definitely gives you a eerie feeling of how big the earth is and how easily it can swallow you up.
