Going hunting between Windthorst and Archer City. Does anyone know if there is a hotel in either city?
Thanks

Altho I've not been inside, The Pipliner (940-564-5695) is a few miles south in Olney. The Spur is run by a nice guy, but somewhat pricey. Lonesome Dove Inn is also in Archer City, but also on the pricey side for my uses.

FWIW, while on the way to our lease west of Archer City about 3 weeks ago, one of our guys' guest, running at least 60, hit a buck crossing 174 about 5:00 a.m. (near Wilson Road, 20+ miles east of Archer City). He's a bird hunter only and was pretty shaken up over damage to SUV.

It must have been a pretty nice rack because when I stopped to check on the accident scene coming home that afternoon, someone had taken head only. And it looked like at least one coyote had taken a meal out of rump.

The deer were moving well the weekend before Thanksgiving. Saw none last Saturday tho - too warm, dry and windy. Hopefully the cooler weather will bring 'em back out. Good luck out there.

We are southwest of Archer City. Hotel in Olney Pipeliner Inn is decent but about $50-60. Didn't know there was one in Archer City, thats good to know. Eat some German sausage at the Windthorst General Store when you go by, and the obligatory silver bullet with it! Great store, if they don't have it, you probably don't need it!

Did I miss that? Crud. I had read about it a few weeks ago and forgot. I would have drove the 160 or so miles just for lunch!!! We always have to go or come back that way, depending on the time. Alsups in Archer City is a staple too! Good beverage selection and prices.

Taco Bell in Bowie is our other favorite stop out that way. Nice big round parking lot for our trucks and trailers.

Lonesome Dove Inn in AC is old hospital, remodeled as Bed and Breakfast. Not all that many rooms and least expensive is around $85 (maybe $65?). Similar circumstance/pricing at Spur. However, around dove season opener, the lady ad Lonesome Dove said her "cabin" next door was somewhat less per person and more often booked by hunters who wanted to fix their own grub ...

I ate late one weekeday evening at "Gandy's" in Olney. Passed on the fast food places and it was well worth the $10 or so for chicken fried steak meal. Gonna try the old man's fried catfish specialty next time. It's only open for lunch (11 to 2) and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday thru Friday. Saw several other hunters in there who looked like "regulars".

I called The Pipeliner in Olney this a.m. and man with somewhat of an accent said something like $45 for single bed room and $50 for double beds ...
