I have a Kill Light portable hog light system on my feeder. It's a green LED light that automatically turns on at dusk and turns off at dawn. I have it running off a rechargeable battery. The problem that I have is that it has totally drained the battery every time I check it. Has anyone else run into this issue? It doesn't seem like it should be draining a rechargeable battery. Any suggestions? http://www.elusivewildlife.com/?section=22&p=productsList&iCategory=12

I have the same issue. I've resorted to just turning it on when I'm going to hunt. I even have a solar panel and it can't keep up.

I have several of the kill lights as well. They're pretty bright so you can see whats going on at the feeder so of course they use a good amount of battery. They draw about 1/2 an amp per hour so a normal 7amp rechargable feeder battery isn't enough to run it all night every day. The solar panel is just set up to maintain the motor but it can run the feeder light if you just run it on the nights your hunting. I've found out they have some wireless remotes that work like a champ so you can have it all hooked up and turn it on and off from your stand. This is my new favorite way of running them, no problems. Now I just need to find some time to get after those corn thieves! Hope this helped, best of luck to ya

Even when the lights are off, the sensors are still operating. The solar chargers are trickle chargers and aren't meant to replenish a large or full discharge. If the battery drains, then it will take quite a few full days of trickle charging to replenish it. The solar charger they include or offer as an accessory is great for a feeder motor or gate opener where only a very small amount of electricity is expended a few times a day, but for lights that stay on for a while, they are pretty much useless unless you only use the lights once a week or so. A cheap solar charger that will replenish your full battery on a daily basis will run around $100. I had a similar problem when we were contracted to design a custom portable lighting system for horse stables and rodeo arenas. The key is to disconnect the sensors and install either a manual or remote switch. Keeping in mind that the remote receiver will continuously draw a small amount of juice too. AggieBrandon and TxHunter have the right idea. Our new feeder lights will be available in 4 switching modes, including remote control, just for that very reason.

I use mine the with the sensor on too. I can easily get two full night of hunting on one set of batteries. The difference is that I use the regular C batteries. Try that.....

I've never tried running it off a rechargeable battery, but I get quite a few uses out of one set of batteries. I just put it out the day before I hunt and have had pretty good success.

I just got back from filling feeders. Darn raccoon turned on my kill light and drained my battery. Must've been last night because the lights were still on lol.
Time to set up on their furry butts!

Thanks for all the replies. It's disappointing you can't run them with the sensor for any prolonged period of time. I was hoping to run them so the animals would get used to it even when im not at the lease. Talk about a design flaw. They should tell you that before your purchase one. I guess I'll have to just run them on nights I'm hunting that feeder.

Yes, the normal solar panels are just set up to maintain and trickle charge so you can run the light off your normal feeder battery on the weekend and it can recharge it during the week just as long as you don't run it all the time. You can get a deep cycle battery and a 20 watt solar panel to run it all night every night but that set up is a little more pricey. If you use the 4 C's I normally get anywhere from 1-2 weeks running off the photocell. The cool thing is, since it was designed with the green LED's it doesn't have to run every night for the pigs to get use to it, since they cant see the grren light very well. I sometimes will hunt a friends place and put it up the afternoon before and the pigs come under it just like clockwork, its my secret weapon when the pigs go nocturnal.

I just run mine when I need it on C batteries with the sensor. The green LED's don't seem to bother anything that shows up to the feeder even with infrequent use.

It's disappointing you can't run them with the sensor for any prolonged period of time. Again, 2+ full nights with sensor on with one set of C batteries. I don't think they are the best "permanent" feeder light.

Okay Bob what do you think the best permanent feeder lights are?? and why?? Hummm I thought the ideal was to run the lights every night when the hogs come in so they get used to the light being there?? maybe I'm wrong, but I haven't done much of this type of hunting so who knows??

I use the Kill Light only when hunting it has magnets at the bottom so it can stay on metal, or I have sometimes attached it to trees. It needs to be over feed. Sometimes the animals will be wary when they come in, but they still feed it may take fifteen minutes or so. Sometimes they come in like it is not there. This is all you need nothing fancy and you can keep it out of the field when you are not using it. Mine is several years old and looks brand new.

I leave my stuck to the bottom of my control unit. When I want to hunt, I turn it on when I get there and wait. Then turn it off when i leave. I've only had a climbing raccoon turn it on one time. I remedied that by not clipping the power leads to the battery until I'm there to hunt. So far so good!
I smoked two raccoons two nights ago. Will probably hit it again tomorrow.
