Thinking about lifting my EZ GO golf cart a little and putting some bigger tires on it for the ranch.

1) How hard is it to do?
2) Where is the best place to get what I need (lift kit, tires and wheels) at a good price?

OK, saw on youtube it's a pretty good job. All I'm wanting to do is lift it a couple of inches. Is this possible or are there spacer kit for doing this. Don't really want to get into a big costly project. Looked around and couldn't really find anything about just adding spacers.

you can add spacers. I would look at some of the cart forums for used stuff too. I have done everything on my cart and it is real easy. You might want to upgrade cables too.

Look a Jake's Lifts. The kits are pretty straight forward and easy to install. I did mine in about 4 hours. Now that I've done it, I could do it in less time. And my job required the change out of springs.

I'd recommend adding HD springs if you have a rear seat or intend to carry heavy loads.

The front requires the removal of the original axle and installing a new one.

The rear requires you to drop the rear axle and install blocks. Tire swap is no issue.

You'll likely have to adjust the brakes so they'll fully operate.

If you replace the front springs you'll need to drill out the rivets on the chrome side trim that holds the floor mat down. The bolt for the front springs is under the mat.

You've got a few options. The drop axle kits are generally the cheapest route. But, your ride quality will stay exactly the same and you will will re-use your factory tie rod, drag link, and steering. Depending on how old your cart is this could be fine.

But, be warned, you will see a torque loss once you bolt bigger tires on.

I order all my stuff from Buggies unlimited, I have the 6' lift and 22" tires on mine back flip seat and all kinds of goodies. There is a lift kit on houston craigslist for $150 today i saw. May be worth looking into if your close. Im about to buy another cart cheap and fix up to sell. Theyre alot of fun, me and my son snuck up on a doe and twins behind our new house 2 evenings ago and got to about 70 yards before they saw us and froze. He loves it but ours is the neighborhood buggie not used at the ranch hardly ever unless its bow season.

look up trademark carts on ebay, they can make a package to your needs, prices were the best i found.

like LP said, the lift isnt hard to do, there is a learning curve though, if i do it again it will go a lot faster.

i would stick to jakes or american lifts for the lift kit, i have heard some bad stories about the foreign lifts.

mine has a jakes 6" and 23" tires, its a bit taller than i like, will probably go with a 4" lift and 22" tires if i do it again, more practical for sneaking through the woods.

Is a golf cart a good deer lease vehicle? The lifted ones look alright, but can they get you through muddy terrain and really get you where you need to go?

I am not a golfer so don't have experience with a cart, so I'm looking for feedback.

While they aren't comparable to a 4x4 ATV or side-by, they will go alot of places with good tires. They're fairly light, and can put some good torque and traction down due to their center of gravity. They're also very maneuverable due to the short wheelbase, so they can go around all sorts of stuff.

An electric can be a great way to sneak around a small place or go retrieve game without having to drive a truck thru the hunting area.

You can also build a pretty sweet cart for less than half of what you'd sink into a Ranger.

Are any brands better than others for this type of upgrade and use?

I'm partial to Club Cars because they have aluminum frames, but the EZ Gos are solid too. Generally the 48V carts will have better power and run time. The series motors are better for hunting application than the Regen (PDS, IQ) because they deal with slow-speed heat better.

Other than that, you can consider upgrading the controller, solenoid, and cables for increased amperage to turn those big offroad tires.

Stay away from the spindle style lifts. Those are the ones that attach to the end of the stock front axle. I've seen lots of them break off, usually while turning sharply. They also widen the width between tires. That causes the tires to throw lots of water, mud and dirt onto driver & passenger.
