Just wanted to give a quick re-cap on the weekends events. First of all, Thank you Curtis for your efforts. Curtis went out of his way at all times to make sure that everything was perfect for my wife and I. The lodge was spotless, the AC was blowing and Curtis had a game plan when we arrived on Friday afternoon. Saturday morning when we pulled up to the hunting area there was already a shooter buck about 40 yards from my bow blind. This got the confidence and excitement levels up. The morning of Bowhunting was shortened by a hungry group of Red Deer that kept the Axis out of the area. Since I didnt get to see the ranch the evening before, Curtis drove me around after my morning hunt. In this short amount of time I saw 3 different axis bucks throughout the property that I would drop the hammer on. A couple busted opportunities and we let them have the mid day without any pressure. During the mid day heat my wife and I made a brief drive down to Shiner to check out the brewery as well as some of the little shops in town. On the way back we hit Gonzales to take in a little Texas history at the Battle of Gonzales museum. By this time its 3:30 and Im anxious to get back to the ranch to prepare for the evening. The afternoon hunt was proving to be difficult after spooking a lot of the game on the way into the far side of the ranch, but Curtis knew that if we would back out then the group of Axis we where after would settle down. Sure enough after watching a water hole and some red deer on the front of the property for about an hour we eased back over to the area that we spooked the axis in. After laying eyes on them we started the waiting game for a shot opportunity. After about 15 minutes of the safety getting clicked on and off, I took the shot. Dropped him in his tracks and the celebrating began. Me, my wife and Curtis couldnt wait to get up to see just how wide this buck was. Sure enough he was the widest one that Curtis had ever had on the ranch and had longer beams then we thought. I never thought that my first axis would make Gold Medal, but it sure it awesome that he did. Im very proud of my first Axis and im thankful that I was able to take him at such a great ranch. I would suggest Curtis and Double Arrow Bowhunting to anyone looking for a great Texas Exotic animal hunt. Thank yall for following along.

This axis was freaking huge in width. I haven't seen anything like him before on our place until this year. Even better I have two more that are wide as well so I know for 100% that his genetics are deep into the herd. When I stood behind it to pick it up by the back of the antlers I was suprised to see that even the caudal tines did not touch my shoulders when I picked it up. That's just nuts. I'm about 6'4" and around 240 lbs and my shoulders didn't even touch the caudal tines inside that big spread he had. Unbelievable!

Wow! Fantastic buck! Congrats!

Travis and Curtis congrats to both of you for getting this beautiful axis on the ground!!!!! I originally had that weekend with Curtis booked and had to cancel. Well thanks for canceling. I originally had Aug 4 and 5th scheduled, but decided the sooner the better. I can promise you that there are 3 more bucks out there that are as big if not bigger. The first buck I saw was a giant. Curtis has a good herd on his ranch. Good Luck, and thanks for the pic Curtis.
