Is it legal to carry a loaded hand gun in your truck without a chl?

Must have chl to carry
Can NOT carry loaded long guns in your vehicle.

Google OKLAHOMA GUN LAWS and you will find all info needed.

Huh, did not know about the concealed part. I was recently pulled over while on my way to the lease. Had a loaded pistol on the passenger seat and another that was concealed in the vehicle. I don't have a CHL. Had license and insurance ready for the officer when he arrived at my window. Hands in the clear, made sure he was aware of the pistol on the seat and the other concealed. Wasn't too long before I was on my way with a verbal warning (speeding 7MPH over). No mention that the one on the seat needed to be concealed.

What is defined as concealed in Texas? Does it have to be locked or in some type of case? Just not viewable to people walking/driving by?

Always wondered about carrying a very compact 12 gauge in the truck.

Concealed means just that...concealed. "It can not be visible or discernible through ordinary observation." - TxDPS CHL FAQs

Having to be concealed only applies to handguns in Texas. You can carry a long gun in plain view.

I have two rifles in a sling behind my front truck seat at all times. Have been stopped numerous times and no officer has ever even asked about them. I am mostly in the country though and every time I go to Dallas I wish I had thought to take them out. I have a feeling Dallas cops are a little more skittish about such things.

Yes, DFW cops are more skittish. I got called on for simply taking my stuff up to my apartment when I was in college in Denton and returning from a hunting trip. Guns in cases, someone still flipped out and called the cops on me.

Wouldn't be too worried about the cops, been pulled over and let em know I have one in the truck and they didn't mind.

I'd be more concerned that in Dallas if they aren't concealed that you're windshield would be busted out and the rifles would be gone

Rifles and shotguns are a different song and dance from a pistol/revolver.

Still some that carry a rifle in the back window rack or in a seat pouch along front of the seat.
