they are all patterned on corn. I have tried corn mixtures but seems like plain old corn is just as good.

i also say just regular old corn. i've tried souring the grain too, it works, but also seems to bring the racoons in that much faster too. i've heard a lot said about diesel. but i generally eat the hogs we catch. i dunno about eating a hog thats been eating diesel. just doesn't seem right.

Use the Big Red I mentioned. I told this to a customer in feb. Her husband used it and trapped 24 pigs in 2 weeks. I took 3 60 pounders from them and have the spicy breakfast sausage in my freezer to prove it.

We bought a bag of the wally world fruity pebbles and one of the generic fruity sodas. mixed it up. let it sit for 5 or 6 days. it was the sweetest smelling stuff ever. We didnt use it for trapping but just put it out and spotlighted. Got 3 coons and 3 hogs in 2 days. We hadnt seen hogs in a few weeks. It def brought them in.

Unfortunately like everyone's secret recipe for getting hogs, they are all based on scant/limited anecdotal data. Either the hogs are around or they are not. If they aren't there, the Big Red isn't going to matter one iota, or the souring, Koolaid, beer mix, super duper Pigman endorsed special feed blend, pheromone sprays, raw vegetables, raw fruits, dead hog carcass, etc. I have tried all these except the Pigman endorsed products. One thing I have noticed about all the testing is that when it works, it is always proclaimed to be because of the Big Red or other additive. When it doesn't work, nobody says a thing or comes up with other excuses about being winded, that the hogs just aren't around, etc. Based on my experience, all these additives are about as good as wearing lucky underwear.

Okay Mr. Expert. All I know is Charley had hogs digging up his farm so they were there. He had not trapped one in over a month. I told Barbara about the Big Red and she called me less than a week later when he had the first eight. I will have some sausage for you in the morning.

I'm setting my hog trap this weekend at my deer lease. What is the best bait to use? 5 gallon bucket 3/4 full of corn 1 package of bread yeast 1 package of strawberry jello 1 can of cheap beer fill with water and let it brew Take what you need each time you hunt but leave enough corn and juice to continue the fermentation. As long as you leave the "starter", all you need to do is add corn and water as needed to keep the bucket full. DON'T SPILL IT IN YOUR TRUCK

I will have some sausage for you in the morning. All I know is that if these special recipes worked as well as people claimed, then we would have a lot less hogs, but they don't work with any consistency or reliability and don't appear to work any better than corn. So it took a week for the hogs to find it? LOL, now that is funny right there! That sounds about like any other bait. Leave it out long enough and then if the hogs take it, call it success! Sounds like they would have found their way into the trap sooner or later anyway.

I mix a 5 gallon bucket of corn up and fill it with water, let it sit for several weeks, furmints up really nice.. they'll smell it from miles away, simple and i've had lots of success running traps with this method. O yea, put a lid on it to help with the furminting.

Trust me on this one we won't go into how I learned this

drill a pin hole in the center of the lid. pressure won't build up, very little if any will get out when you move it and it won't stink up the garage.

Haha I've never had a problem with the lid blowing off, and I definitely wouldn't put it the garage anyways

Sounds like from reading the posts the answer is obvious. Soak your lucky underwear in Big Red, eat Cornflakes for breakfast, then make certain you spill some diesel on you while filling up the truck. Use yourself for bait but make certain you have plenty of ammo cause you may bring some in from Arkansas.

The benefit to adding a small amount of diesel to your corn is nothing will eat it but hogs. I have been told it doesn't affect the taste of the meat at all. Sour corn seams to attract more coons than anything. You could need to change up your trap set.
