I hate trying to identify snakes! What type do you think this is? It Didnt want to play nice with me today, so i tried my new ruger 22/45 lite on it, but i had to escort him off of the patio to try it out!

The coloring and yellow over the eyes makes me think it's a banded water snake.

Thats what i was thinking also! Dam thing was laying next to my dads front door as i was going inside? Scared the cap out of me.

They can be pretty aggressive when they feel threatened. Now that I see where you are in Texas, I am almost certain that's what it is.

The coloring and yellow over the eyes makes me think it's a banded water snake.

That's a killer snake. He will make you kill yourself trying to get away. Dang right, thats me and any snake. I have been known to mess up a good spot and stalk due to seeing a snake and whipping out the judge.

Whenever I come across a snake like that it always looks like a deleted scene from "Larry, Moe, and Curly learn The Riverdance"
I would have put that hoe to work at about 1000 cps (chops per second) We'd be cleaning up pieces of snake off of the house for days.

Hard to ID a snake when you're doing the flying W 6' in the air and trying not to come down anywhere near it....I know from experience....

At the lake this weekend a guy with a cooler walks past and mentioned crawfish, to which I say, hook a brother up. He says dig in, I open the cooler and a snake jumps out a me! Almost die of heart attack, fall backwards on my butt and say a few choice words, and throw my beverage at him.....realizing that I just got punked. Had a real looking rubber snake with the head tied with fishing string to the lid! I then snatched it away and "paid it forward".

I am rooting for the snake. Problem is , the harmless ones are often the most aggressive. My daughter has three garter snakes and every one mean as hell.
