Which town will you be closest too? The wineries around Fredericksburg are "de rigueur" right now. Plenty of women's clothing stores and a kitchen shop in Fredericksburg too. I loathe to be drug around to them, but, for you I will get the names from the war department, if you are interested.

Your best bet is to get her a place on the lake in San Angelo. There's some beautiful scenery and the town is just the right size.

Go down to Fredericksburg or Llano or Kerrville.

In Llano we had one of the worst meals I ever had of traveling for living for 40 years at the Hungry Hunter -but Coopers had 50-60 bikers standin' in line waitin' for the Q' or we would have been all over that & what we went out of the way to Llano for, my wife spent the rest of the day in or looking for 'nuther bathroom PDQ...'n that ain't fun when you are travelling and looking for a place to live around Tow at the faaar north end of Buchanan...or as I said "How to win a new customer and impress out of towners looking for a new place to live...NOT".

In Marble Falls, the Bluebonnet is a must for breakfast and worth a 100 mile trip just to get there. We ate couple times at the Maxican - big tin cotton gin looking bldg on the east side of 281 as you come into Burnet from the south, not a 5 star quaint place but well worth the stop...and NO unscheduled bathroom breaks needed afterwards.

Cohunter, if you guys are driving to Brady, there's a place at Buffalo Gap just south of Abilene that is a world class stop called the Perini Ranch Restaurant.

Several movies have been shot in the area and they base their crews out of the Ranch, & the recipes out of their Cookbook - "Texas Cowboy Cooking" Time Life series, with the foreword by Robert Duvall, always get fabulous comments from people I bring pot luck dish's to.

Be sure to Google the Perini Ranch, and look up the references from Texas Monthly, Southern Living and the New York Times and others.

My wife & I spent a couple weeks in London England once upon a time...and still talk about a similar destination type restaurant we enjoyed some 30 years ago. This is that kind of experience.

Years ago there were several good to great steak places from San Angelo to Abilene, notably the Lowake Steak House in the middle of nowhere just east of Angelo in a cotton patch that was worth the drive was my favorite. Have fun in the "best part of Texas".

as others have stated, there is a wide variety of places to visit while in Central TX.

Brady is fairly remote but a trip into San Angelo would make a good day trip.

Burnet is about an hour and a half to the SE with a bunch of quaint little shops around the old square, some of the best BBQ I have ever had is just off the square at Post Mountain BBQ on south Main. The Maxican south of town on the east side of US 281 has likely the best cheeseburger I have ever had plus a variety of other great foods from mexican to more great BBQ and all sorts of things between, the bacon cheeseburger is enough for two people (and I am a big eater). ~20 minutes to the south is Marble Falls and the Bluebonnet Cafe which is very well known for the pies. Another 20-30 minutes south on 281 is Johnson City that has various shops for curio and knicknacks, then west on US 290 takes you thru the LBJ park and Lady Bird Johnson wildflower parks. Variety of wineries along the way on into Fredericksburg TX known for it's German heritage with all sorts of shops and musuems...

wasn't sure if you were looking at making your home base out of Brady with day trips out or some other location to venture out to for the next night?

another idea would be venture on over to Georgetown (30 minutes east of Burnet) which has the historic square filled with shops, Wolf Ranch shopping center for more modern types of shopping, the Outlet Mall on the south side of town ... There are a number of Bed & Breakfasts to pick from there too, along with hotels.
